I occasionally buy an expensive cigar, in my opinion that means anything $7 and up. Most of what I buy I pay less than $3 for per cigar. Call me cheap, but that is what I like doing. Gas here is about $3.07 per gallon.
I never like price increases, but they are inevitable. Our government began killing our dollar bill long ago and inflation will never stop.
Online a $7 can be stupendous if you are selective, strategic and pay attention to price trends.

Why is that? Is there a ceiling on what you can spend, or will spend? Is it an arbitrary number, or just a matter of principle? Your situation differs somewhat, simply based on your location too, right?
The factors driving up prices for cigars are different than the things that drive our incomes upward, but hopefully, our budgets for cigars go up along w/ their prices.

Just using, say….. @VegasFrank
If his cigars go up on average .50 a cigar and he smokes 3 a day (it was an off day for Frank). $1.50 a day, that’s roughly $550 a year on .50 a cigar. That’s not awful but still not good….. on .50 a cigar. Just an example for me personally. RVGN has a Corona I really like. Awesome 4x40 for $4.50.
This was from Halfwheel
Half Corona from $4.50 to $6
I’m all set at $6.
And this is just on one hobby of many that most of us have. What about when Coffee goes up? How about ammo? Bourbon? Pipe Tobacco? Beer? Let’s say my gym(s) go up in prices. How about Netflix, Prime, your cable bill? Decisions will have to be made on where your money goes.

Yeah, I don't know what to say, except thank God I made it to retirement, and barring a total economic collapse, my fixed income will never be broken. So some of this is coming from an old fart who can be somewhat callous because it won't affect him.
You are right, Pete, inflation is high this year and it's across the board; it'd be great if it was only cigars but nothing is immune. All we can do is cut a few corners which hopefully won't crimp our style too much, recognize some of the crying because of stuff that we postpone or cut out is just our 'first-world' crying, and wait it out. I've been through tougher economic times than this and remember what it was like to scrimp and deny myself because I (and everyone around me) was broke, and my parents and yours probably went through times worse than that.
Nothing we say on this forum or do away from here is going to change anything about the price we pay. Nobody likes it, some hate it, but all that remains at the end of the day is, we put on our big-boy pants and make whatever choices we can.

So why is everyone ok with Tobacco, Bourbon, Ammo etc going up ….. then why so mad at gas going up?
I think with the gas thing it has to do with it fluctuating so much and so often. Regular increases in products is a normal thing. It really sucks...but it’s normal. The price of gas (oil) is the main driver of the price of everything else going up. Me personally....I’m not ok with any of it. But it all starts with the price of fuel so I guess that’s why people focus directly on it so much.

Personally I’m not mad because increases aren’t inevitable but I’m also jaded because I live in CA. But goods we need we will by and goods we want we will be more frugal with our spending. There are far worse situations ( look at Venezuela) to be in. Corporations run this country and will continue to dictate pricing and policy.

I'm mad about that because a certain someone called a different individual out for the price of gas going up. Now under this person not only is the price of gas way higher, but absolutely everything else we consume is too. I'm more upset by the hypocrisy and that he and many other no longer believe what they said a short time ago. Everyone should be held to the same standard, but as we all know this is not how it works. As far as cigar prices some will be worth it and others not so much. Going to call it quits on Viaje, but still going to use my contacts to get great deals I'm sure.

Sadly, that's probably what our own politicians are using as a guideline.

More than 420 million premium cigars were imported to the U.S. during the first 11 months of 2021, far exceeding the imports in 2020.
The data comes from the latest report from the Cigar Association of America (CAA), an industry trade group, and the total number of premium cigars imported to the U.S. from January-November 2021 is estimated at 420.32 million, a 33.5 percent increase compared to the same time period in 2020.
So there is a supply chain issue? I'm not convinced that this isn't a cash grab with price increases.....
Remember that the manufacturers are months or years ahead of what we're importing. Maybe they're adjusting prices on what we're buying because they're buying materials at higher prices for what we'll be smoking down the road. Just a guess.
There’s an endless amount of reasons why prices go up, inflation, demand, regulations, popularity, scrutiny, rarity, bad grow season, great grow season, all these things mean price will inevitably go up every year. So goes the way of the market, as long as it’s still in demand, the price will only ever go up long term.
Of all the reasons a cigar price could go up, I would assume inflammation would be last. I wonder if they can take Aleve for the inflammation. Naproxen usually works.

If we bought only half as many cigars in 2022, would the price go back down?

Cigar inflammation causes cigar shortages:
@Usaf06 i heard they spray the plants with a Tylenol mixture
