Hello everyone. I just recently got hooked on all things cigars and hope the posts on here will help educate me. I’m in Boise, Idaho and just now trying to grow my cigar inventory.

Welcome! The best education you could get (if you are able) will be by connecting to the V-herf. I'm sure someone will link it below me. It's a nightly video conference type thing where a bunch of people sit around and smoke while shooting the sh*t.
At any given time the urge to sing "In The Jungle" is just a whim away... A whim away... A whim away...
Welcome but be careful being here will grow your collection and destroy your bank account
...and thicken your skin 😁
Thanks everybody, I appreciate the laughs too.
Okay a quick initiation.
Use the search function to find the answers to your questions.
Your humidor problems are just like all of the other humidor problems. Yours are not different or unique. If you think they are and you ask the question, people will tell you to go get a plastic box. Most of the guys won't help you with humidor problems because they use coolers or wine coolers or plastic boxes. I mostly use wooden humidors though.
If you are new to cigars, keep a couple of things in mind. Your cigars are more resilient than you are. The humidor that keeps humidity the most stable is filled with humid cigars. Keep the cellophane on.
@peter4jc will likely give you a smart-ass answer if you ask a question. @Bob_Luken will likely make fun of you and then answer your question perfectly.
Share what you're smoking in the what are you smoking this morning, this afternoon, tonight threads. You can also see what other people are smoking.
If you start another new thread, someone will likely complain. New threads scare old guys. I'm surprised that someone hasn't already commented that there is an introduce yourself thread that you could have used.
The vherf (mentioned before) is a zoom meeting where we all hang out nightly and smoke cigars. It doesn't cost money and you can float in and out as you please. It gets hopping in the late afternoon, Pacific time. Sometimes I get on it. If you want to get on it, download zoom on your computer or tablet or cell phone, and then click the link found in the "New (zoom) vherf" page. It's on the signature line of any @Yakster post.
Most of the guys here are Vegas Golden knights fans. Especially @Cam_91 @CharlieHeis @Guitarded and @NorCalR1.
Oh and we’re all smartàsses, just at different levels. Some have a diploma, some a g.e.d. some a phd and some have completely mastered the art to the point that you’ll never know the difference. But it’s all in good fun so wear your thick skin and dive in.
...waiting for a question so I can pounce, just to keep Francis happy.
Just jump on Rusty, he called you aged.
Oh and welcome Monticristo.
Don't let the wife know what you spend on guns, ammo or cigars.
Spelled his own name wrong... tsk, tsk.
Vegas Frank, thanks for the explanation and wise consult, I have been warned.
I would also add that if you want to know how to improperly cut a cigar, the best coffee grounds to dip your cigar in, and how to store a half-smoked cigar in your humidor, then just ask @MrPossum or myself. We will steer you right in all the wrong ways.

Hmmm…how did you know who I was…I mean why did you assume I meant Peter??
"Aged" (for me, at least) is a compliment. Not everybody makes it a ripe old age. I am blessed.
@Monticristo welcome to the crazy world of cigars, and the craziest world which is known as the forum.
Welcome man, some play nice, some don’t . Then there is the rest of us.
@Monticristo Welcome to the forum!
Welcome to the forum @Monticristo
@Monticristo According to another thread you already ordered a thermoelectric humidor. How did you decide that’s what you needed? Just curious.
I have a small Wooden humidor now, only holds about 50 cigars. I decided I wanted a larger one and electric with digital temp/humidity for better accuracy. The humidor I currently have has a an analog hygrometer that is lousy.
Welcome @Monticristo
@Hobbes86 i find the best way to store a half smoked cigar is to leave it on the porch for the next morning
Welcome @Monticristo, check out the “what ya smoking” threads for great recommendations on new cigars to try. These guys have yet to steer me wrong.
I store half smoked and nubs in an old jar with the lid on tight until I'm ready to throw the whole bunch away with the rest of my garbage.
I use a Pringles can. The ashes don't smell but the butts stink so putting them in a jar or can before tossing is a good idea.
If only we knew someone who supply us w/ a pallet of Pringles cans...
Hmmm
I know, You're a big dog and I'm on the list.
Let's eat, GrandMa. / Let's eat GrandMa. -- Punctuation saves lives
It'll be fine once the swelling goes down.
I let them fester for a few hours in the ashtray and then toss them into the understory behind the house, or into the wood stove in the winter. They're biodegradable leaves aren't they?
I'm usually indoors (in the garage) and the cigar is still burning, so I trust a glass jar with a tight lid to safely extinguish it and contain the odor. Pringles cans are made of cardboard and I wouldn't trust it 100%. I used to toss them outside. But the tree line is too far in my case so they ended up accumulating just outside the garage, then once a month or so I ended up nub hunting to collect them up for disposal. I've grown fond of my jar technique. No more nub hunting chore.
