My everyday is now burning through the center. Use a torch to burn the outer edge but don't get the thick smoke I want till I fire the middle. Live in Pa. And humidity has been high but my humidor stays pretty constant. So has my problem.
Good article! Once upon a time DZR used to dissect cigars to see how they were made. I found it interesting, but some folks just lost their minds over it, as if he'd desecrated some kind of holy relic or something.
I've found a trick that sometimes compensate for the tunnel. "Sometimes" bears repeating. Often the tunnel turns out to be more of a "bubble", usually around the middle third of the cigar.
Once I've identified that the cigar is tunneling, I ash it, then hold it vertically about an inch or less above the ashtray and repeatedly drop the lit end. I'll drop it two or three times, then observe and blow on the coal, repeat as needed. This seems to pack the coal, so to speak. Not infrequently, after about a few more puffs and repeating this procedure I find that I've gotten past the bad spot. Allow some rest time between those few more puffs.
Hope that helps, and, it doesn't always work. Good luck.

Could be humidity causing tunneling. Is it only your favorite? Or do you only smoke your favorite? (most) of us here do not have a cigar we smoke daily. We mix it up.

Could be a bad batch. Roller might have had an off day. It happens. It really sucks…but it happens.

You are a rare bird, Steve, a rare bird indeed.
I've seen people pack their cigarettes before smoking them, I'll have to keep this tip in mind the next time a cigar is tunneling.

I don't remember having a cigar tunnel, ever, so I have no advice, other than to say you should be more like me.
