4th Annual Ice Classic Contest

Despite the ongoing snowfall and single digit temperatures, there are those here in the Frozen Freakin’ North who claim breakup is imminent. I have my doubts. Nevertheless, once again the banged up red barrels are out, people are talking about missing last year’s time by mere minutes and eyes are turning to the hamlet downriver called Nenana. Here’s the deal for anyone as yet unfamiliar:
Standard contest/trade/pass boilerplate applies. 12 open slots, first come, first in, one pick per person…entry times determined by the official CCom time stamp on your post. Each slot covers 5 minutes of a standard galactic hour of 60 minutes. 1 is :00-:04, 2 is :05-:09, and so on.
If there is an open time slot when the ice goes out, the winner will be the closest pick that had been passed. So if it goes out at 19 minutes and that slot is open, the winner would be the guy who took the :10-:14 time slot, even if someone had the :20-:24 slot.
Winner is whoever owns the slot which holds the minute the Tanana River ice breaks at Nenana as determined by the Nenana Ice Classic clock and posted on the Ice Classic website. (https://www.nenanaakiceclassic.com/)
Winnings are at least a ForumFiver and probably some gen-you-wine Ice Classic swag… Contest closes when filled or April 9, whichever happens first. Hey, this ain’t much, but it’s all we gots an’ it’s better than guessing when the first Canadian goose is gonna show up in Squarebanks….

Interesting that the climate hasn't changed once since before the last ice age until just recently.
