EDC Accessory thread

So, I’m a big EDC guy. I have my favorite Spyderco PM2 knife, my Olight Baton Pro flashlight, and Olight EDC pen with me at all times. I have been trying to filter out the riff raff of knock off accessories. But to no avail, I’m already up to 3 cutters, 2 ashtrays, and lighter in the past week.

What is your go to cutter, lighter, ashtray, nub holder etc. Help me buy once and cry once so I can spend more money on good cigars, and less money on junk accessories!

Boker knives actually makes a box cutter type knife that can also cut cigars. Have any of you tried it?

My current preferred cutter is a vertigo, but I hate that it has the “training wheels” per se on the backside.

My lighter is an Amazon special, which does fine, but could really have a more directed flame for touch ups. It’s easy to goof up a good cigar using it.

I just bought this ashtray, my other was one of the thin walled that led to me burning multiple holes in my socks when my cigar would fall off.

Tell me how poorly I have chosen!! Haha

I don't carry a cutter, any more, my Kershaw does.

Nice! I’ve considered using the Spyderco, just afraid to mess up a cigar at this point.

Keep it sharp, mine does have a thin edge.

My favorite ashtray has been discontinued, but it's big, heavy, and deep. The Camacho Powerband Ashtray. I have many, many ashtrays, which comes in handy when herfing with friends in the back yard.

I like the Xikar VX2 V-Cutter, I use it 99% of the time and have one for the man patio and one for the garage.

I’ve been dabbling with the idea of a v cut. I’ve never tried it. What’s the difference between a v cut and a straight cut?

I agree with Chris. The power band. Ashtray is the bomb. Need a cigar rest for it, but I don't trust those little feet from stinky anyways if there's any sort of wind storm.

All of my accessories in one shot. A nubber from @Stubble, a cigar rest from @Usaf06, a xikar XO cutter from Amazon, a perfect draw tool which I used to bleed lighters more than I use to ram in the buttholes of cigars, and a piece of crap lighter from @fuckyouchina.

Get a stinky or stinky jr ashtray. The cutter I carry mostly is a old heavy duty Xikar. The new ones are junk. Any lighter will do it’s just what you get used to. I had to retire my favorite a year or so ago since then I’ve been carrying a Porsche design that I have no idea where I got it. But it’s the perfect size. The knife I usually carry is a Kershaw. It’s like the rest of this hobby…it’s all about figuring out what you like.

A v-cut actually cuts a v shaped notch out of the head of your cigar. It opens them up a lot more.

My concern with any of the Xikar style is they don’t look huge hand friendly. I may be over thinking it, but I’ve been checking the Xi2 and XO out, they just look so compact.

Looks like I need to pick up a v cut and try it out. I appreciate an easy draw.

I remembered your nub holder from the herf, and was looking on Etsy. It looked like a custom deal like you’d see on there. I really like that a lot.

I use the KME sharpening system, and run about 13 degrees per side on mine. Seems to be a good balance between toughness and sharpness in S45VN

Y’all are bad influences. Just placed a bid on a VX2.

@Bob_Luken showed me how to take a scrap copper wire and make it into a cigar/pipe rest.

I like the v cutters because 1. it's hard to cut too much off, 2. it opens up the draw, 3. I don't get bits of tobacco in my mouth that I'd have to spit out like when I use a guillotine cutter.

Seth, @Stubble taught me how to make those nubbers, and if you haven't made or found one by the next time you need coffee, I'll whip one up for you.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't get it. What is EDC??

I have a Xikar double guillotine from @Bob_Luken, a triple flame lighter/rest from Amazon, a cheap single flame lighter, and a nubber from @First_Warrior (if memory serves). I have a cheap ashtray from Perdomo but I misplaced it during my recent move. I smoke mostly outside, so I just ash wherever I'm at.

Concrete holder from Etsy, Jetline lighter, combo soft and jet flame zorro, and Prometheus H cutter. Have others but these are the daily drivers.

    My everyday lighter and cutter.

  • Sethbanks711Sethbanks711 Posts: 398 ✭✭✭✭✭

So, for now, I know I enjoy straight cut, so I ordered a Xicar Xi2, and a Xicar HP3 lighter. I bought a vertigo v cut to try it out, didn’t want to drop 80$ before I know if I enjoy that cut or not.

    Thanks guys!

My EDC days are pretty much done. I used to rely on a Leatherman Wave on my belt in lieu of a toolkit but now I don't even carry that.

Instead, I've got two setups with the Xikar VX-2 cutters and nubbers and cigar rests where I'll smoke and I got in the habit of keeping my main lighter inside because it works better warm. I have backup lighters and cutters, etc. both in the garage at my workbench and out on the Man Patio in my accessory humidor.

Good choice on the Xikar, I have huge mits and it’s not a issue at all, been using them exclusively for years without any issues. It can also double as a cigar rest. Also a good choice to try out a cheap cutting device before dropping coin on an expensive one. I tried V and punch cutters for a while but found I didn’t prefer them myself.

I held off on recommending a lighter because I've been having trouble with my favorite lighter, the Lotus Triple Table Top lighter. This is the lighter that was sent out with the Saints and Sinners packs last year with a cool design, I believe, but I found this one on the Devil's site and was willing to accept the 5 Vegas branding to get the best price. It holds a lot of butane and works well, but I find that you need to adjust the valve to get it to work well and not blow out and that requires a small screwdriver. I wish these had an adjustment like the Xikar Turrim double flame lighter which has a large knob on the bottom that you can turn easily without any tools.

I've found that mine works best wide open it only gets out of hand when it gets low on butane
