Marketing. But to each their own. Some people smoke them. I’ve never had one I liked personally. Plus the wrapper leaf commits seppuku every time they are lit.
If I recall correctly, CigarChick said they were ccom's top seller. How can they be so bad if people keep buying them; I don't understand, is it their success at portraying an image of luxury at the lowest entry point? Are they really that bad?
There were a couple of decent ones, but so many terrible ones that it's not worth sifting through. Quality control is absolute garbage. They advertise a $30 cigar 'on sale' for $5, so they are probably top seller for newbies who think they found a great deal.
The sad reality is that if they advertised as a $5 cigar they would probably get more repeat customers. It's just shady sales tactics mixed with a mediocre (at best) product.

When they're good, they're really good. I've said much on the subject, reviewed one, the Yakuza I think, about a year or two ago, and it was quite good.
Unfortunately, my experience has been that they've got about a 70% fail rate. ie: It's too tight and I can't draw, drat, the last one of these I had was great. Or, Hmm this is good, wait! What's happening? It unraveled and fell apart! Etc.
They seem to go out of their way to find good tobacco and then roll it so wrong, it's very frustrating, and certainly not worth the price point. What was the retail price on the Centurion? About 10 years ago they wanted $36.00 a pop, I had to smoke 3 of them before I got one that burned right, and none of them were worth more than $6 at their best.
Just my $.02
