OK, seeing as how I got roped into this, I'm trying to understand it, and I have a few questions.
-Are the cigars we are to send to you ( @EgoBoundary ) to be unbanded?
-Do those cigars play any part in the judging process, or are they meant to replenish for cigars you sent out, and/or are they part of the prize? Or are the 4 cigars we send to you the cigars that you send out to the participants?
-Does everyone participating receive the same set of unbanded cigars, i.e., are all cigars labeled as "A" (or whatever) the same, all "B" the same, etc. ?
-The scoring is, of course, very subjective. Does someone (EgoBoundary) establish a baseline score for each unbanded stick, or is that not a part of the process?
Just trying to figure this out, sorry if the questions are obviously lacking understanding.
-It's best if we take the bands off; if a cigar is damaged in the process by us, we just send a different cigar; if Ernest does the damage it could be removed from the contest.
-All four of our cigars are being sent out to four other participants.
-All of your cigars will be labeled A (or whatever) and four different people will receive those.
-The cigars end up w/ the total score as an average of what the four people who smoke a given cigar gave it. It is subjective but it pretty much equals out because of the variety of palates doing the evaluating.
I see, so the cigars I submit to Ernest are scored, and the "winner" is the person wo submits the cigar receiving the highest score.
Follow up questions:
I do not know what my cigars are labeled then, only Ernest knows?
Are we to tell Ernest what we send, even if we remove the bands?

All cigars get sent to Earnest. Then he labels them with a name (usually phonetic alphabet) and sends four to each participant. Said participants then score each cigar and send their findings to Earnest via pm. Earnest will reach out to each person asking for what cigar they sent him. He will tally results and post them for our viewing pleasure. No one knows what cigars are sent to each person except Earnest until the contest is over and results revealed. You will not know what cigars were submitted for you since they are being sent by Pete, just like Peter doesn’t know his because they are being submitted by Earnest.

Remember I'm sending in your submission for you. All you have to do is smoke and rank

Understood. I'm just thinking about next time. Thanks! Can you PM me what "my" submission is?
Ha ! You guys are great at answering all the questions , and they are all correct … you can remove the band if you want , but i can as well. You can with hold the name of the cigar until just before the final scores are tallied or you can tell me outright , I do not share which one is which until the end.
As a first timer, I recommend reviewing the scoring : which is two values
1 the cigar score flavor/complexity/construction ( out of 10, I have recommendations on how many of us break this down in the first post )
2. The cigars rank compared to the other cigars ( there are 4 cigars so best is #1, and worst is #4)
You will get a cigal (labeled alpha or beta, etc) and then you message me the name of the label , followed by the cigar score out of 10, and the cigar rank out of 4.
I compile these numbers for the the final scores.

You can send Ernest bodyguards for him to keep and return postage for the packages he ships.
Indeed, thanks. I will.

You can use this Google Sheet for scoring, if you like. Save yourself a copy before you fill it out.
