Open, Closed, Shaggy foot?

Besides what you can find on the Internet, what is the purpose of this closed or shaggy foot? Is it really for taste or aesthetics? Is it easier to roll or more complicated? Just curious on your thoughts.

A good cigar and whiskey solve most problems.

Love the closed foot. Extra flavor of the wrapper if you are not OCD about toasting the foot which defeats the purpose.

Hate the shaggy foot. Total mess with filler embers flying everywhere.

Agree with what fúcker said about the two. Neither one is really harder to roll. It’s all in where you start your wrapper. In the case of those that are a completely closed foot like the Green Hornet they basically glue a cap onto them.

I can't believe I also agree with @rsherman24 . If a closed foot has a nice cold draw I'll just light it. If it's tight thru the closed foot I'll toast it to open it. The shaggy is supposed to allow you to taste the filler void of the wrapper. I usually don't toast shaggy either.

The times I've burned holes in my shirts have been when I'm smoking a closed foot.

Prefer an unclosed foot. Don't care for shaggy foot. I prefer to toast the foot.
