I can vouch for the McC #14. I'll send you some and this seems as good an excuse as any to open this 2003 tin of Charring Cross and 2018 Odyssey to share.

I'd be more than happy to try those in return for a fiver or so but one of the issues I'm running into is that a few of my favorites that I have tried so far was a limited release/discontinued and I don't want to pay above and beyond for them. I need to find something I like that is readily available that I can stock up on. I didn't expect as many limited releases or things just being discontinued when I decided to pick up the pipe I kinda just imagined I could order whatever whenever or at most just have to wait a week or two until it was back in stock. I think really my biggest problem though is I just haven't gotten out there and started exploring enough yet.

That's a constant issue. The Charing Cross and Odyssey are still readily available, sadly the #14 is no more. Another good one to try is Star of the East Flake, also still available, and Byzantium comes to mind.

Interesting side note about Charing Cross, it's named after a famous London hotel, which happens to be the place one of the main suspects in the Jack the Ripper case lived. Not a reason to buy it, of course, just a bit of trivia.

Anybody got a recommendation for an oriental forward tobacco to try? I don't know hwat flavors are what yet but I really like that almost musky B.O. taste (if that makes sense) I have found in a few.

I agree with @Rdp77 regarding KBV, oriental affair and fore glory are great.

Arango Balkan Supreme tops them all for me at this point. I have tried lots with Balkan in the name or description including a bunch of KBV but I generally find them less flavorful than Arrango. I got some Oriental Affair the other day and it's pretty good but not Arrango

Dang that is pretty off putting to me. Maybe once I start to understand what flavors come from where it won't be quite as big of a deal but right now I'm still trying to figure out what makes an english or verginia etc. let alone the specific components of each blend. Honestly I'm really hoping its the oriental flavors that I like but I feel confident that's what it is. Guess we will see here shortly

An English blend is one that is predominantly Latakia. They’re mixed with orientals and other components. A Balkan blend is very similar to an English…except the orientals are more predominant. Virginia is a type of tobacco. They tend to be a little sweeter than others.

If it don’t bother me, it don’t bother me. Just leave me alone.

Well I think a rally of the troops is in order, stat!! @OmgFrigginMike has asked for help. It is only right to help this brother of the pipe. I will send a few samples out this weekend. It will contain all measures of orientals. Once the ball has been placed in motion it is impossible to stop. Just ask @Hawks B)

Ok so that more or less confirms It is the oreintal forward that I enjoy. My favorite I've had so far was palmetto balkan and I woulda just bought a bunch of that if it was still around but I've liked a few english too. I'm not so sure about this VaPer that I just smoked (C&D Low Country Waccamaw) but It's the only one I've tried.

I'm scared to answer due to possible repercussions... I don't know what burley's I have had but after doing a quick google of what burley taste like it sounds like it would be right up my alley.

According to some redditer found from the google "A good burley should taste like a good coffee stout: chocolatey, coffee, nutty, malty, rich. Sometimes you'll get a bet of red fruit, or really red fruit candy, or the common additions of licorice and/or molasses."

I've added some of that to my cart with smokingpipes but It'll probably be a few weeks at least before I order any more. I put in this order this morning that should hold me off for awhile but when I get to more experimenting it's on the list.
