Advice on pipe
Sure that this has been gone over 1000 times or more, but becoming more confused as I go. Just looking for a couple short answers from folks I can trust. Is there a big difference in Cobb pipes, if so recommendations please. TY in advance for any help or insight, it's time to just do it.

Buy the Missouri Meerschaum pipes, not the cob pipes from Asia. They come in filtered and unfiltered, I've only ever tried the unfiltered.
I guess they have pipes with plaster of Paris coating on the outside, I prefer the natural cob pipes. Pay attention to the sizes.
Someone else may be able to provide more insights.

You get what you pay for. A $5 cob is not going to be as well made as a $30 cob. Just a warning. I bought a 4pack of cobs on Amazon for like $10 or so. Came with filters pre-installed. Filters gummed up quickly and after removing the filter and cleaning the stem, each one shattered trying to get the stems back in. Buy a good cob.

This is my favorite. It is lighter than the other mms since it hasn't been filled, it smokes drier and is cooler in the hand.

I got this one as my first about a month ago and it’s treated me well. I didn’t even realize there was a filter in it for my first smoke but it probably saved my tongue some serious pain. I now smoke it without a filter and only slightly burn my tongue most of the time.
https://corncobpipe.com/product/natural-country-gentleman-corn-cob-pipe/I got a second one from the same brand that is smaller but I can’t actually fit my tamper all the way to the bottom. I can’t think of the name it but when I get off work I’ll look at the sticker on the bottom

Can't tell you how much this means to get some down to earth basic answers. Thank you

As I’ve said before, a corn cobb pipe is perfectly suited for an enjoyable smoking experience. The MM pipes are great.
As much work as you do outside, I think this would be a great match for you.
Personally, I don’t have any worries about dropping, leaving outside, forgetting to clean, etc etc a $10-$20 pipe as I would one of my nicer pipes.
Food for thought.A good cigar and the open road solve most problems.

Plus replaceable stems

I don't think the term 'rougher than a cob' was referring to pipes but they are plenty durable

Food for thought.I dropped a cob into a walnut hulling machine last week. Ran completely thru, stem looks like it's been tooth bit all over, stummel separated from the bowl. The bowl was pretty green from the hulls and the stummel was lightly brown. However a week later the bowl has taken a little brown stain that matches the stummel. Some Elmer's glue and a little sanding/polishing, it'll be good as new. I knew there was a reason to have "work' pipes.

First night with the cob, great night. Def. a little learning curb ahead of me, but kept me busy on a chilly night next to a fire with a few friends .

I’ve been trying to figure it out for a few weeks now and I think I’m starting to as long as it’s not a super good aromatic. I can’t smoke some aeros without burning my tongue or it tasting ashy.

Ssssssllllllooooowwwww. the more it has sauce, the slower you go to keep the smoke cool. Otherwise you steam the shít out of your tongue. So I've been told.

The best flavor is between a full red coal and it going out. Too hot loses all the flavor. Glad you're enjoying it, Edward. Did you buy a tamper when you bought a pipe and tobacco?

Tamper is on the way, picked up a couple on a cheap bid. Between this and the farm I stay just busy enough to enjoy retirement, lol.

I used to just use my thumb to tamp, light. Puff, let it go out or cool a bit, then gently tamp and relight; good to go.

Pretty much what I did last night.

Thumbs, golf tees, nails with large heads all work. I do enjoy using tampers, though.
You can hold a tamper over the cherry and bring a smoldering bowl back from just about going out. You can also hold your thumb or two fingers over the rim and get a similar effect.

Long ago I thought I needed to smoke the whole pipe from top to bottom in one session, like a cigar or cigarette. Not so. I would end up with tongue bite, especially from burley, the good taste would fade as the pipe got hot, the tobacco burned too hot etc.
Nowadays I smoke differently. I light slowly, an initial light of a second or two, then let it go out. After a few minutes, another light. I prefer to use a tamper to just the thumb, or drawing in the air between two fingers, but I sometimes do those, too. If the bowl seems to be losing flavor, or getting too warm, let it go out. Possibly the greatest thing about pipes is that once it cools down, brush the ash off the top and relight, boom! Good as new!
I try that technique with cigars, I'll relight when needed, but there's always a loss. I may still enjoy the rest of the cigar, but it's never the same after relighting.
As a result, I may load a pipe in the morning, and not finish it until the next morning. Far from diminishing my enjoyment I find that this suits me quite well.
Your mileage may vary.
