Ever heard of Sara Lee Artesano bread?
Went from buying one loaf at a time, then 2 and now 3.
It is the best grocery store bread we have ever had.
Do yourself a favor and at least try it.

Well, I missed the clear medallion on Four Roses so I completely understand.

Nothing and I mean nothing beats homemade breads and rolls.

The store where we shop doesn't carry it. They carry other Sara Lee breads but not that one. I went to the Sara Lee website, did a search for it, then did a search for where to buy it. I tried the 5, 10, and 20 mile searches (all that was offered) and no store within 20 miles carries it.

On on the bright side, our store carries Alfaro's Artesano Bread which I've already tried and I think it's probably as good as Sara Lee's. I like it quite well. I agree that it would make great French toast but it's a bit sweet and of soft consistency to make good plain toast. I like mine a tad crispy but Artesano is too soft to 'crisp up' the way I'd like it.

Sandwiches - okay. French toast - okay. Plain toast - Pass.

Just thought I'd let you know, JD @jd50ae. Thanks for pointing it out to us....

now here's a question.....you guys have any suggestions for GOOD, authentic bagels from the grocery store?

i've yet to find a truly good, NY style, boiled bagel in the grocery store.

we do have a good jewish deli/bakery in town but it's about an hour drive, round trip.

oh we've made them at home before.
it  just takes a lot longer than making bread/rolls/etc so we rarely do bagels at home.

When I lived in No Virginia there were legitimate bagels everywhere.

In West Gnawed Pencil there isn't a single one  :s

I like rural. But you miss so much.

You buy the ingredients at the grocery store... so technically all bread is grocery store bread! ;)

my wife does most of our shopping at Trader Joes (more healthy store... hippy/yuppie store. lol) So the bread I get is literally like biting into s sponge.
