I can retire earlier.

Got a letter from our retirement that there was a mistake on my retirement and my retirement should have started a month earlier, which adds almost a grand to my retirement. LOL!
And that previous DOD employment can be bought out. The problem with that one is, at what cost.
So my retirement date probably isn't gonna change any. It will only increase my monthly pension.
LOL!

How many more years until retirement?

I am eligible to retire Nov 1, 2023.
I have to have 30 year or be 60 years old to retire without penalty.
I will be 60 at that point. If I buy back the DOD time, it really makes no difference, it only increases my pension. But buying it back comes at a cost, which I'm not sure it is worth it. Still have some checking to do.

I remember years ago thinking that guys with 5 years left were doing so well.
Now, I am one of those guys and the time seems to be slowing down.
Kind of like waiting for that last 15 minutes in school. In Fumo Pax

Been collecting SS since I turned 70 and still working (and paying into SS, lol), all it is doing is raising my taxes at this point; planning to retire when I hit 80 or so, if I make it.4

30 more for me, I will be 63. Full pension plus my 401, still funded at least 5% of income by me since 19. And if Colleen doesn't leave me by then her three retirement accounts as well. We will be just fine. My child is also set up with a high yield savings account and a college fund. Planning and budgeting the same for our second child."We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". Winston Churchill.

Side note my kids will not know about any of the money until they graduate or start their career. We will tell them that we are taking loans for their college, this will hopefully be a motivational tool. Only time will tell, also the savings account won't be passed over until they are no longer retarded, so about 30."We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". @Patrickbrick solid planning!
We are doing a similar plan with our daughter and do not plan on telling her until after she finishes college. If you want to bomb me send it to Tony @0patience

The question for you young guys retiring before 65, what are you going to do for health insurance? Pay for it yourself, or does your employer cover it until Medicare kicks in."I could've had a Mi Querida!" Nick Bardis0

So for me, it probably won't be a terrible amount of money.
And we'll deal with that until her and I collect social security and Medicare kicks in.
I can get Cobra insurance from work until I get medicare, but it is crazy expensive.

I get shops asking me when I am gonna retire and come to work for them.
I laugh, but then I start thinking. Hell, if I collect a pension and get a months wages from them, I could really do well and get all kinds of stuff.
And then the evil glare from the boss lady hits me. LOL!
Although, it is possible for me to work 1000 hours after I retire and they are trying to get me to do training courses for that 1000 hours.
I'll probably do it, cause it won't be full time work and I can possibly teleconference to the training. In Fumo Pax

Not until we get insurance.0

Ah umm err hold that thought. The dems/libs/socialists/communists/snowflakes/weenies/anarchists will sooner or later be in office and you will have to works another 20 years to pay for all the handouts they will put into law. And the amount of taxes going to criminal illegal immigrant aliens will skyrocket.0

Heh, my wife and I pay $600 per month, each, for Medicare parts A & B; been paying into it my whole working life and am continuing to pay into it as long as I work.
Oh, and my doctor just stopped treating Medicare patients, as have all the other local doctors so I have to go to a non-profit clinic now.0 -
I swapped a lot of my 401k investments into British funds in anticipation of Brexit. I've been gaining thousands each month. I just need to remember to swap back when everything goes south."Cooking isn't about struggling; It's about pleasure. It's like sǝx, with a wider variety of sauces."

2 1/2 years, not so much.
I'm looking into the cost vs gain now, but they are telling me it may not make a big difference for me.

City, county, state, federal, police, fire, military.
If you are working for a govt, the previous govt work can be bought back to retire earlier.
I suppose it may depend on what govt, but to my knowledge, I don't know any that don't allow it.In Fumo Pax
