Butterfly nut?

Are any of you familiar with this term? I just now heard it and I'm obsessing a bit over it. (I need food, I've only had coffee so far.) I don't remember ever calling wingnuts anything but wingnuts. Kinda irks me too. If someone asked me to pick up a few 1/4" butterfly nuts I would not know what they're talking about. Or am I just ignorant? Has it always been named a "butterfly-wing" in particular and I've only ever heard the abbreviated term?

In order to check out butterfly nuts you have to hold them by their little legs - their wings are kinda fragile....

I've been in the automotive field my whole career (23 years) and have only ever heard of them referred to as wingnuts ( including repair manuals).

Yeah I saw that too when I was googling around on the interweb but also lots of regular old wingnuts being called butterfly nuts.

Only ever heard wingnuts, never heard them called butterfly anything before.

Used to work with a guy with big ears we called wingnut but if you are searching for butterflies nuts I can't help you.

Replacing a fixture on a concrete block wall. Dropped one of the existing butterfly nuts in the wall. Searching for a new one now.
