So, 45,000 barrels = 2,385,000 gallons or 8,775,000 liters of whiskey up in smoke. Good grief, that is a lot of whiskey. Assuming an average price of $25 per liter (which I am guessing), that equates to $263,250,000

If you've ever been to Bardstown, Ky they have rack houses all over town where they store the barrels to age. They look like old rustic barns / buildings ready to collapse at any time. This is the Bourbon capital of the world. Heaven Hill, Old Grand Dad, Makers Mark as well as Jim Beam all have their distilleries here. They had a fire at the Heaven Hill distillery that burned for 3 days and was supposed to have been one of the hottest fires on record. I have a buddy that lives there and used to go down to visit and he would fill me in on these things.

Just goes to show you how much bourbon is needed to supply the world's thirst. This is just one manufacturer. I can't imagine the staggering number of gallons stored for all manufacturers. Hundreds of millions? Mind boggling.
