B/SOTL in Recovery?

I'm in recovery and when I initially started getting into cigars one of my concerns was the very real connection between cigars and booze. There's nothing wrong with that, of course. But I was worried I wouldn't be able to fully enjoy the range of notes in a good stick since i would never be pairing it with some good whisk(e)y. Of course I quickly realized this wasn't the case - there are a load of non-alcoholic drinks that pair very well with cigars. So far I've found good coffee goes well wtih many sticks and even dark sodas (coke, dr pepper) can pair well. I had a Dr Pepper with a La Gloria Cubana R the other day and it was amazingly synergistic.
It would just be cool to know if there are any other BSOTL who are clean/sober.

I only pair my cigars with relaxing. For me it doesn't need to be augmented with anything in my opinionNow this is not the end of the cigar. It is not even the beginning of the end of the cigar. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning of the cigar.3

3 and a half years right here. Honestly the whole pairing thing is a little goofy in my opinion. Sure, things like coffee are good with cigars but I tend to think that it's because coffee is good and cigars are good, so coffee and cigars are good. It's not as if a cigar isn't good because you don't have coffee available. Same with whiskey.
I don't know how long you've been sober for, but generally it isn't a good idea to ask something like this in a public forum. Everyone on here knows I'm sober, so I don't mind sharing, but some people might feel otherwise. It's not as if I just quit because I felt like it, I had to mess things up pretty badly first, and most people only tell those kinds of stories to their close friends. We are out here though, sober and lit (he he he couldn't resist the pun, #fvckinCalvin)

I am not sober... currently either... but I wanted to recommend Root Beer / Sarsaparilla as a great non-alcoholic pairing."Cooking isn't about struggling; It's about pleasure. It's like sǝx, with a wider variety of sauces."

I smoke more cigars with a Diet Coke than I do with anything stronger. Probably over a year it is 10 to 1 on Diet Coke vs. a beer. I rarely drink anything stronger than a beer and haven't paired cigars with liquor.0

Me too ^, or a diet Dr. Pepper. I find that the abrasiveness of the carbonation helps to keep the pallet fresh when I smoke six face melters in a day.@ScotchnSmoke sux lots of large wéiners. And tons of small ones.4

Has anybody screwed up their palate with orange juice or eating citrus and totally ruined a cigar? Or is that just me?0

I didn't qualify myself as a person from any particular fellowship, thus breaking the 12 Tradition. Nor was I requesting anyone else do the same. Not everyone in recovery is in an A fellowship, anyhow. ETA: I'm comfortable saying I'm in recovery on a forum - if others are not, I completely respect that.I straddle two worlds in recovery. Yes, I do have an "A" fellowship I belong to and that's one thing. The other is the non-fellowship related world of people who are not anonymous for the sake of taking away the stigma that keeps so many from seeking help. I don't toot my horn about stopping an activity I shouldn't have started in the first place - to me recovery is simply about actively working on being a better person and helping my community at large. I am heavily involved in community outreach via several organizations. People see I'm a hard working and decent person - and they also see that I *happen to be* in recovery - and they realize that there is hope for their actively using loved one. I go into the woods and hand out narcan to people in tents and I tell them it is possible to turn their lives around. I'm loud about this **** when I need to be. We don't talk about this stuff and it's killing people. In my state there are many people working to change this - I am proud to say I am one of them. It's funny that pirates were always going around searching for treasure, and they never realized that the real treasure was the fond memories they were creating. - Jack Handey12 -
I usually pair cigars with iced coffee, since that's pretty much all i drink.

Anybody aware of programs for Rage-aholics? Seething cauldrons of rage seeking to spew vitriolic hate and disdain out onto select groups that may disagree with them?
These people need help, too.WARNING: The above post may contain thoughts or ideas known to the State of Caliphornia to cause seething rage, confusion, distemper, nausea, perspiration, sphincter release, or cranial implosion to persons who implicitly trust only one news source, or find themselves at either the left or right political extreme. Coffee and water are always good with a smoke. Congrats on your work and being in recovery @BadSneakers.
I was born a fool, and just got bigger!2 -
I make no secret that I rarely drink alcohol and why.
I do sometimes indulge in a bourbon with a cigar, but I am very careful to never have more than two small drinks in a night.
Which works for me.
But, as was said earlier, root beer and sararsparilla are great for pairing with Cameroon cigars
They are my favorite drink with cameroons.
Otherwise, I have no problem drinking a cola, Pepsi being my preference.
Water, coffee, even hot chocolate work with certain cigars.
You have to find what works for you.

I have almost a year and a half. I don’t go to meetings and I struggle daily to stay sober. I associate Vherf with getting hammered which is what I used to do on Vherf. I will try again when the weather warms up, drinking a non-alcoholic drink.9

Love you, Jim, keep it up.5
