Cigars Discord Server (not associated with CIGAR.com)

Hey Folks,

One thing that I've seen being brought up a bunch is a way for us all to chat live. I've looked for an existing Discord server, however, I have not been able to find one. So I created one for us to use! It's not intended to replace your forum activity, just another means to collaborate. Here are somethings I see it being useful for:

  • Real time chatting and discussions
  • Exchanges (trading, giveaways, contests)
  • Cigar Passes (have your own private channel to communicate track passes, etc)
  • Cigar Clubs (have your own private channel to communicate with other members)

    Thanks, @Fulltank, we've been using Google Hangouts video conferencing to get together and vHerf, but this free service could be pulled at any time (we're living on borrowed time) and sometimes suffers outages so it's good to have a backup.

    FYI, Discord does offer an audio conference bridge to allow groups to talk to each other beyond the text chatting features. It's popularly used by gamer crews to coordinate their game play and shoot the breeze.

    We've had it since June last year. Not very active, which is a shame because I am on Discord daily and never use Google because I'm a PC user and never use phones.

    But, maybe one day others will be active on it. We currently have a handful who have dropped in, but it never took off. Most folks here just use the Google Hangouts.

    I didn't know we had another way set for the group to get together, and I didn't know people used it. @BKDog is there a time or days you are generally on this link so others could join you?

    @TNBigfoot68 I'm on every weekday for an hour or two in the mornings, EST.
    I don't set specific times. I'm not in charge of the chat. I believe @0patience has the ownership role.

    I think I can set up people as admin on it. @BKDog if I can remember, I will make sure you can admin it and that way, since you know about discord, make it easier

    Jumped on the CCOM Discord server @0patience set up and saw @Trykflyr_1 in the voice channel. We figured out how to get a call going, then added video. Pretty cool. Like Hangouts, it'll do 10 video users but with audio only the limit jumps to 5,000, I assume you can do mixed audio and video. Best yet, it's free.

    Yes, if you have the discord app on your phone and have the notifications on, it will tell you when someone is on and what messages they leave.

    You should both be set up as admin, so you should be able to add or whatever.

    I'm thinking backup right now, but if it works good could be primary. It's nice to get notified when someone is on in app and you can do text, pictures, and audio. I'm playing with it now.

    There's plenty of people that can't get on Hangouts, my new tablet scrabbles the video on Hangouts.

    Ah, so...

    If there are two systems going, that's not good; Tony will be on Discord and I'll never see him unless I have it too, and my old brain might not want to learn a separate online herfing thing. If everybody switched to Discord it would be better so there are no cliques or places you can hide from me. ;-)

    I learned that @Bob_Luken's phone is too old to run Discord which is a strike against the platform.

    This might be the motivation I need to upgrade my phone. Otherwise I'll use this phone until it dies.
