Nicotine binds to the same receptors, along with some blood pressure medications, and that may explain the lower prevalence of smokers reporting to the hospital/ICU. My buddy swears it. He, along with a whole office, got it during a training meeting in another state that is less stringent with mask wearing. The only guy who didn't catch it was the chain smoker. He's convinced it was the smoking that protected him. So, in fact, cigars (nicotine specifically) may really be good for you beyond relaxation therapy.
