Some wrappers are just fragile. You could have drawn on it a little too hard at one point and heated up. You could have squeezed it a little too tight. It may have had a hairline crack that was emphasized by the heat coming through the cigar. Could have been a hundred different things. Sometimes it just happens.

I was definitely massaging it on the rougher side because it was a really tight draw but I didn’t crack it while doing do(I think) but about 1/3 into it I heard it cracking a little bit. It was dark and I didn’t think too much of it until I adjusted my grip and felt it flaking off in my hands.
Just don’t overthink it. They’re a handmade product and occasionally you’ll have an issue. If it becomes a regular thing, that’s when you start looking at process or storage. Until it becomes a regular problem, pitch it and get another one. Overthinking will ruin the whole purpose of smoking in the first place.
