19th-century Democrats held positions that align more with modern Republican views than current Democratic ones, largely due to a party flip in the mid-20th century. In the 1800s, Democrats favored limited central government power, states' rights, and supported slavery, directly opposing the Republican Party, which was founded in the 1850s to abolish slavery and promote a stronger union.

Liberals accuse me of not being "politically correct." They're 100% wrong. All of my political views are the correct views for an American to have.

The reasons why are very interesting. Wasn't north and south as well as rights for all what split both parties and actually made two new parties?

Just my considered opinion: Making America great is not synonymous with hegemony. That path leads to an erosion of what made America great.

Three major reports this month reveal that Trump has rapidly harmed American democracy since returning to the White House. Bright Line Watch, which surveys over 500 U.S. scholars, concluded that the U.S. now falls nearly halfway between liberal democracy and dictatorship. The organization's co-directors spoke to NPR exclusively ahead of the survey's publication next week. An annual V-Dem report dropped the U.S.'s democracy ranking from 20 to 51 among 179 countries. A Freedom House report released yesterday said that among free countries, the U.S. recorded some of the largest declines in political rights and civil liberties last year.

I wonder how much it would have dropped if the candidate that was NOT democratically selected had won? Or, does the process count for anything?

It is a Constitutional Republic. Pure democracy is just mob rule. The progressives/socialists/communists (or whatever they're calling themselves today) that push so hard for us to believe we are a democracy are just trying to convince us that our liberty is dependant on the majority, not the individual. They hate the idea of individual liberty. That is why they are always pushing collectivism. They want to only have to emotionally sway just a slight majority of the people to strip the individual of rights. Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on what's for dinner.

You can't agree with that being the reason for the war, or agree with Iran having nukes?

Maybe the nuke thing is just a cover. Maybe trumps real reason is to help the muzzies over there who want the current radical, oppressive regime gone. They've been on TV begging Trump to continue what he started. Finish the job. There's always that.

I hate to ask this and if you can please put your politcal party aside, why the hell are we in this middle east conflict?I have wondered that as well. A couple things come to mind.
One, a friend of mine knows someone in Tehran. His friend in Tehran was sending videos of massive riots in the streets, and the regime's response consisting mainly of automatic weapons being used on the protesters, for TWO WEEKS before Israel and the U.S. commenced the attack.
So, perhaps it was just that someone felt that the time was right?
Two, the obvious stated by Shawn, above. They've been threatening us and building their armaments and funding terror throughout half the world and working feverishly on attaining nuclear status ever since Jimmy Carter was president, and someone felt that they were getting too close to being too big to spank. Mr. Joe Kent disagrees, and he may be right. But, I know nothing at all about him, for all I know his idea of "imminent threat" may not be put into play until the weapon's loaded, the hammer is cocked back, the safety's off, and the Mullah's are laughing maniacally.
And then, there's the point that Edward made in the Quote of the Day thread:
Freedom has always been best preserved by gifting it to others.

Years ago I defended Islam. I had a good friend who was Muslim, from Jerusalem, and I could sympathize with much of what he told me about living in your own country and feeling you were living in an occupied land. I still think that there are aspects of Islam that ring true. Somehow, though, there are too many things that don't, as seen above. I don't know why these things became part of Muhammad's message, but they've certainly led to too many problems. I wish it weren't so.

Let's see if we can increase the number of death threats aimed at Congress.
"Now with the death of Iran, the greatest enemy America has is the radical left, highly incompetent, Democrat Party," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Doubtful impact. Easier to just vote them out, and they've been making that case against themselves just fine. Why risk jail when you could just show your I.D. at the poll and have them removed?
Of course, there's the Jussie Smollet effect wherein the left will make anonymous threats and then claim they were made by conservatives. That's likely.
I see that CNN has had to issue multiple retractions regarding false news stories they aired on the word of "anonymous insider sources". More of those are likely, too.
