Funny, popes seem to vacillate on this subject through the centuries. I wonder what God thinks of that?

more Hegseth:
The battle highlights the bitter rifts opened by Mr. Hegseth’s campaign to reverse policies that he says are prejudiced against white officers.
Mr. Hegseth has said repeatedly that he is determined to change a culture corrupted by “foolish,” “reckless” and “woke” leaders from previous administrations. But his heavy scrutiny, especially of female and minority officers, is eroding confidence in a promotion system that is supposed to be apolitical and merit-based, his critics have said.

The pope is only believed to be infallible as to the doctrines of Catholic faith. This comment as in birth control and others are a persons opinions.

@Amos_Umwhat great reply, thank you. Cool story about the training course.
@edz I hear what you're saying, and two contextual things for you to consider.
One, during a combat operation, almost nobody wears their rank. Pilots don't wear their rank on their flight suits. Operators don't wear their ranks on the ground. Don't want to be a target for the enemy. The wearing rank thing isn't about real world operations. Neither is the new policy, which encompasses time outside of theater operations.
Two, I think we use the higher calling thing too much with the religious professionals. I think that most service members have a higher calling to service and country itself. Feel like I had that higher calling during my time in the active force. You can have a higher calling and still be proud of your accomplishments. The policy seems to give that pride astigmatism of shame. That's one reason that I don't like it.

That seems a bizarre explanation.
Who knew there was an Underground Transgender Mafia?
Sounds like they'd be connected to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I watched the President's update re: Iran last night. He looks tired. Overall I must say I was disappointed in several things.
I know, laugh now. It's okay.
He seemed to start off fairly well, but I think it's time to let go of the comparisons with his predecessors, to begin with. I haven't seen, watched, read any of the commentary by media outlets, not past the headlines anyway, I'd rather just absorb what he says without being told what I'm supposed to think and feel about it.
One thing I did notice in the headlines was the medias disappointment that he didn't tell them what was coming next. To do so seems like a dumb idea, kind of like the coach running across the field and informing the opposing team of what the next play is. Not a good idea.
Something that really bothered me was that he did not emphasize the notion that we are not, or at least should not be at war with the Iranian people who have been suffering for a long time under the ruthless regime there. Several times he made mention of the notion of bombing them "back to the stone age, where they belong". That doesn't sit well with me. I would rather he had focused on freeing their people from the oppression that has dominated their lives, and the goals of their government. People are still people and deserve consideration even though they exist in the land of insane determination to destroy their neighbors.
Next, or still, he just can't stop bloviating, to borrow Bill O'Reilly's expression. I think it's just intrinsic to his nature, he has to keep blowing his own horn. It got old a long time ago. I would have preferred that he magnify that we don't want to "bomb them back to the Stone Age", we just want them to cease and desist from killing their citizens, seeking nuclear weapons, and plotting and funding terror operations against other people and religions.
Our goal should be to assist the people of Iran in gaining independence from fanaticism and living peacefully with the rest of the world in a state of freedom. I hope for that possibility.
As I've said before, if the information he acted on is factual, I understand the why of our actions. But I deeply wish that it had not been necessary. A nuclear Iran is untenable, so is an Iran that cannot be restored to a state of peaceful freedom.
All that said, I believe Iran will continue to retaliate in the ways that they always have, by targeting the innocent. We seek out and destroy military targets, which sadly the Iranians hide within civilian populations. They seek out and destroy civilian targets without regard to guilt or innocence. It's what they do, proven over and over again.
What the hell is wrong with people?

Instead of quoting, I’m just gonna tag @Amos_Umwhat it’s not directed at, but just so you see it and what I took away from that oddly meandering “Speech”
I thought it odd when he said we were there to help there was a pause and then sort of like a… Our allies in the Middle East. His quote was something like.” we don’t need to be there, but we are but we don’t need to be there, but we’re there to help… Our allies in the Middle East” do you think he was talking about any place other than Israel? I don’t. That was just my take away. I’m also not quite sure he understands how a global energy market works. He’s trying to reassure the American people that we don’t need Middle Eastern oil, but that doesn’t really matter in terms of oil futures. He handed in and out of that they’re totally destroyed, totally obliterated…… But for some reason, we’re gonna strike them in the next three weeks. He did say that, we will strike them over the next three weeks. But why do we have to strike somebody who’s been totally obliterated? He threatened to cut off their electrical grids by bombing their energy sources. I remember correctly, I’m pretty sure you can’t do, still a war crime maybe? I don’t know.
I guess I’ll summarize it by saying his speech to me is like when your kid gets caught doing something wrong and tries to explain his way out of it, but it’s so incoherent that it’s almost funny. You know that somewhere in their head, they think they can talk their way out of it but they absolutely can’t.
I’m going with the Frankie’ speech to text disclaimer. I’m not even gonna go proofread it.

I can't disagree. He definitely sounded like he needed a nap. He said too much, while not saying enough. I think out of office by 76 years of age might be a consideration for Presidential term limits, or something along those lines. It's a job for people who can go the distance. As we've already seen in the last administration, power hungry subordinates can, and will try to capitalize on the limitations to achieve their own ends without regard to due process.

For those who didn’t want the federal government getting involved in state government and politics.
“We’re fighting wars. We can’t take care of day care,” Trump said at a private White House event Wednesday.“It’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare — all these individual things,” he said. “They can do it on a state basis. You can’t do it on a federal.”

Think of all the money we will.make if we sell more weaponsThis has been a disturbing phenomenon for a long, long time. I've always felt that if a country cannot build a jet fighter or missile or tank or whatever the weapons system du jour for themselves, then they don't need one.

A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction. . . . American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. . . . This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. . . .Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. . . . In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

Those guys aren't too thrilled with the Iranian regime either. (Not an argument here, just thinking about it.)
