Welcome to Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average.

    Garrison Keillor

He's got a ton of great quotes.

Read his books and enjoyed him on the radio. First class story teller.

"This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy...I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."

    --George Bernard Shaw

If someone isn't what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.

How would your life be different if…You stopped allowing other people to dilute or poison your day with their words or opinions? Let today be the day…You stand strong in the truth of your beauty and journey through your day without attachment to the validation of others.

I like it. I'd probably exchange Beyonce for Einstein and Oprah for Chuck Norris, but I like it.

I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so here it is. In the past few weeks I've watched numerous Netflix and History Channel documentaries about the American Revolution and WW2. Somewhere in that mix was the comment about military thinking:

"Amateurs talk about strategy, professionals talk about logistics."

Made me think about Ron @Diver43 's signature line. How true!

They neglected to mention plain old good luck.

Regarding the iceberg, good luck should have been mentioned, but it is above the water line and part of what everyone sees.

Regarding the Thomas Sowell quote, I'd argue the stupidity is real, not artificial. Although, perhaps only ignorance is real and can be corrected by education, while stupidity is indeed artificial in this particular instance.
