Seasonal smoking
Well guys, I’ve almost been here a year now and have noticed recently that some of my old favorite cigars just aren’t tasting like they used too. First thing I did was checked the RH annd temperature in my tupperwares and humidors and inspected the cigars to see if they were alright, and they are.
When I was brand new and my only point of reference was when I used to smoke cigarettes i liked just about everything I got ahold of but couldn’t really tell what flavors came from where. Nowadays I’m definitely preferring the milder cigars most of the time, but it got me thinking. Is it just my palate changing from experience? I fully expected my preference to change to fuller cigars rather than milder, could some of my cigars just age poorly?(I wouldn’t think under a year would make much difference) or could it be due to the weather? I know when I was a drinker I used to prefer a cool corona in the summer and stouts in the winter.
Do you guys prefer certain types of cigars certain times of the year? Do your preferences continue to shift every so often? Am I gonna like this 3/4 box of MF The Judges at some point again?

I definitely like lighter, brighter tasting cigars in the heat, like a Caldwell L&F or something with Candela and the heavier, deeper tasting cigars the rest of the year. Those Judges should come back around in the Fall.

El Presidente absolutely your palate has changed and will continue to evolve. Sometimes cigars just taste different than you recall. Some cigars age well while others not so much. There are many possibilities of why and how cigars taste…too many variables. Enjoy the journey my friend.

Not only do our palates change, but our 'paradigm' of what a good cigar is changes too.

I like buying whatever i see and tossing an extra few in to long term storage to try down the road. I still have my regulars, mainly Man Of War Puro Authentico, but i continue the tradition of hoarding random cigars of all profiles, shapes, and sizes, just to keep my palate surprised. Id also suggest giving pipes a go, sometimes pipe tobacco can really expand your cigar palate. I used to smoke cigars exclusively, and never wouldve imagined liking my pipes even more, but now i smoke my pipe daily. My wife loves it when i smoke my pipe in the house, also unlike cigar smoke, pipe smoke doesnt smell so rough once it gets stale. Mix your cigars up and try them all with different foods or drinks. For the record, if a cigar doesn’t taste good paired with a beer, its never going to taste good in my experience.
