Chris, it might be a good time to scroll through a couple of the threads about pipe smoking. It's not the same as cigars, there's a different mind set. I started "Pipe tips for cigar people..." a few years back, there's a couple more beginner threads as well, seek and you will find them. Trust me, it's worth the effort to learn to do it right. I say "trust me", although that might worry you a bit in the coming days, lol. Looks like you're off to a good start.

@Amos_Umwhat i appreciate the advice, definitely need to get smarter on this. I already called Hawks and chatted with him a little about storage and packing the tobacco in the pipe to be smoked.
