So im in the process of getting my coolidor together because the small humi is beyond full...don't worry extras are in zip-lock bags with pillows....just ordered my conservagel beads this morning so they should be here in a few days. My main worry now is ive already washed out the cooler 3 times and it still smells like plastic Ive tried to keep it opened up in my basement cause didn't want to put it outside with the potential snow and ice that we had the past day or so. My question is now should i keep washing it. I think before i will leave for work tomorrow i will put it outside...bring it inside and wash it one more time. After that i dont know though...will the plastic smell change the taste of the cigars. would cedar paper work to help cure the smell?? baking powder????
I didnt use it for a coolidor but I did when I converted a mini-fridge. Left a bunch of newspaper in there and the plastic smell was gone in about 24 hours.
I broke down a few cigar boxes (cedar) and lined the bottom of mine. I then put a small bowl of beads in there along with some humi pllows and let it sit for a few days. Then I just started putting my "full" cigar boxes in there. I really only use my large "tubs" for boxes. I have two semi-medium coolerdors that are for singles but they are all cello'd up.
when i was a kid, my dad was teaching first aid to my boyscout troop. one of the things that he said was that newspaper is very clean until you open it. if someone is bleeding badly you can open up an unused newspaper and wrap whatever is bleeding in it. once you add pressure its just a matter of getting them to the hospital.
the added bonus was that its very absorbent so blood doesnt go everywhere.
all fo us kids looked at him like he was nuts. we didnt know it was absorbent.
this is when he told me it was so absorbent that it will soak up smells from just about anything you put it in.
a few weeks later my soccer shoes were reeking. i threw some wadded up newspaper in there and the next day they didnt stink at all.
i did it again when i was in college and the mini fridge i had quit one night and i didnt find out till the food started to stink.
it was all bad.
again, newspaper to the rescue.
your babies are going in there.
