Ground troops vs Wing troops

Back in the states, you can hear both sides talking smack about the other. Grunts this and grunts that or POGs this and POGs that. But when it's time for business we pull together and are a force to be reckonded with as always. We are truely Brothers in combat. I can pick on my brother all day...but someone else better not say a thing. So yesterday I'm wrapping up my shift, when I see one of the Ground guys that we support often with close air support. Being a cigar smoker I instantly notice 3 boxes of smokes...and he keeps heading our way. Sure enough, 3 boxes of smokes for us! We are the only show in town for close air support and have been doing a lot to keep those guys safe as much as we can. If they call, or ask for escorts-we're on it. Just ask any ground troop, the sound of helicopter rotors is one of the sounds of freedom, followed by a belch from a machine gun or a large boom from the missles. We talked a bit, shook hands and he was on his way. He just wanted to say Thank You. I called all the troops over and explained to them what just happend. Its not often the younger guys see what goes on in the big picture of things. It felt good to pass those cigars out to my troops and let them the guys on the ground appreciate what they are doing. So again...I'll pick on my brethern all day, but no body else can say anything. Those are some good guys.

    Oh, and welcome to the forums. We do a lot of cigar talking, smack talking and political mishmashing around here. There's a great bunch of brothers here. Some service members also.

    Hearing the rotors was always a blessing after cas. That's good stuff. I wasn't lucky enough to get to meet any of our cas guys as we were stuck out in the middle of nowhere and they were ran out of Balad but they were a saving grace regardless if it was because of an engagement or for an casevac. Thanks for doing what you do, cas is one of the things that makes the US military so effective.

    Fantastic. From the V22 Osprey Test and Evaluation Team in Patuxent River, MD, thanks for all that you guys do. One of the things I like to do here as a former Squid in Naval Aviation, I like to give all the former and current Marines that I work with a cigar on November 10th each year in thanks for the service they all have given.
