Price of raw tobacco?
I was recently reminded about the TV commercials of my youth (yes, the earliest ones were in black and white), and I recalled the old cigarette/cigar commercials. Specifically, I recall a Lucky Strike commercial where there were scenes of old men standing around bales of tobacco, bidding for the leaves at an auction. Now I know many of the larger brands grow their own tobacco, yet other interests use tobaccos from all over. I was curious about the process. Do they still auction? Are leaves purchased on the stalk, after priming? fermentation?, etc. Reading about creating the forum blend got me wondering? Where are we getting the leaf?
