Tough to hear, brother...glad they got it in time. That one is the 'silent killer'. Yep, rectal exam every other year after 40

If you have family history, go get checked out. Even for peace of mind if nothing else

He may just luck out. One of my brothers was found to have colon cancer and they were able to remove a section of his colon arthroscopically as an outpatient. Not even any hospital time. And they got it all.

    Best wishes to your uncle....

that info is actually pretty encouraging. Its hard to think about and hard to wrap my head around. not knowing and waiting for appointments is BS! lol but it has to happen. We have to wait and see what happens.

Really. They are getting so good at this schidt it's unreal. Things like this, that used to be dire, nowadays, you have a real good chance it will turn out perfunctory. Ex lax and hope for the best.

If you catch it early, a full recovery is highly likely. My mother had it at age 78 and they only had to remove a small section of colon. She had to do chemo after but it was much easier than when she went through it with the breast cancer she had a couple years before that. Fortunately, it's one of the easiest to diagnose early if you have a colonscopy on a regular basis

Yeah, just ask me about it. They took out my entire esophagus and a small part of my stomach and then hooked up what was left of my stomach to the stub of my esophagus. But they got all the cancer. And everything works pretty much as normal. So, yeah, I'd say science is getting better all the time....

Coworker of mine had her husband just go through a similar situation. Little surgery, little chemo, came out smelling like roses. I think he missed a couple weeks of work. Hope everything goes well. It's scary, but there's reason for hope. Good luck to you and yours.

Good news! Followup appointment came with the diagnosis of Stage 1 Colon Cancer. It comes with a 90%+ survival rate. They will have an appointment with a surgeon soon to have a small section of his colon removed.

Got to see my uncle last weekend. He and his wife are in really good spirits about the whole situation. Date for surgery is still unknown but in process.

HUGE UPDATE!!!!!!! My uncle had his consultation and doctors said 'there is a 93%-97% chance that they removed all the cancer cells during his first colonoscopy. they don't recommend chemo or surgery but will do regular blood tests, annual CT scans and colonoscopies to keep on top of the situation.'

HOLY CRAP IN A HAND BASKET! super thankful it all has played out this way so far! :) Thanks for all the support and thoughts and prayers! I really appreciate it!

I'll drink to that. Did you read about the volunteer firefighter who had a total face and scalp transplant because he was burned so badly in a fire?  That's pretty amazing...
