Podcasts - Good, bad, ugly?

Edna20Edna20 Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭✭✭
Ok, there was a thread about audiobooks and podcasts came up, I didn't want to thread jack. Who listens to them and what do you recommend?

I've listened to -

Serial - awesome

This American Life - just started to listen on occasion, don't follow it regularly. Found a station that streams them and I listen in the morning before I'm ready to focus on work.

My Dad Wrote a Porno - if you haven't listened to this, DO IT. DO IT NOW!!! It had me in tears.

The Black Tapes - this one was OK, but I stopped listening because I'm a wussy and it got too scary for me  That is by no means to say it's scary I'm really am a wuss when it comes to that stuff.

Others?

@Echambers other than This American Life what else do you listen to?
Team O'Donnell FTW!

Aw, jeez, now ya got my curiosity all fired up and I don't even know what a podcast is. Mention of something as funny as you're making it sound makes me want to know more.

And if ya type a space between each letter of the censored word we'll be able to figure it out. Right now, My Dad Wrote a **** doesn't tell me a thing. C'mon, folks, give. I'm starved for humor....

OKay, 'at's what I'm talkin' about. A clue!  Thanks, @Yakster. Now I think I can chase this topic down and see what, if anything, I'm missing.

Here's the official website, I provided an Overcast link yesterday from my phone's podcast player because it was the easiest way to get it out there and you can play the episodes from the web page but this official link probably has more info and info (I think): http://www.mydadwroteaporno.com/

The regional sales meeting is the best! Just thinking about it makes me start laughing again. Season 2 just started, but I may go back and listen to season 1 again.

I'm partial to the Joe Rogan podcast, pretty much anything on the Ringer podcast network, and definitely love the Smoking Tire.
I've recently tried revisionist history by malcolm gladwell, it's ok so far.

I found the black tapes to be great traveling  content. It sounds interesting and important and keep you engaged.  I'm halfway home and have finished season one i'm going to let my dad  wrote a porno take me the rest of the way there.

I agree on The Ringer stuff, except for the Jon Favreau one. That guy drives me nuts. Can't really get in to Gladwell either.

Garth Brooks is featured on this week's Riders in the Sky (America's Favorite Cowboys) Riders Radio Theater podcast. It's cornball comedy, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Another good one I've been listening to is The Last Podcast on the Left. They cover serial killers and other interesting topics, but in a really funny way! I'm listening to their 4 part series on Dahmer now.

I'll get chewed out by some I'm sure, but Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History series is a must-listen.

I like Oliva and Quesada (including Regius) a lot.  I will smoke anything, though.

This Cigar Federation podcast with Andrew Wood from Tabacos Mundial is a lot more optimistic about FDA regulations than I assumed.

So, I've been listening RABBITS, by the same group that did the Black Tapes.  Entertaining podcast I listen to in the background while working or driving until today when I heard the word MKUltra mentioned in episode 108.  This is the codename for a CIA mind control project and also an Illusione cigar.  Perked up my ears there.  Dion would probably enjoy it.

James Brown from Black label was on cigar-coop the other day. Was a good show. James is very humble

@yakster, check out Last Podcast on the Left, they do an episode on MK Ultra and talk about it often during many of their others. I think there is rumors that Jon Benet Ramsey's mother was MK Ultra!

Sadly, Last Podcast on the Left is not for me, brings back bad memories of morning drive time radio DJs in LA from my youth.

The latest season of My Dad Wrote A Porno is back and I've been listening with headsets at work, while shopping, and listening without headsets in the car and I have to stifle the laughs when I'm out in public, it's cracking me up.

@Edna20, I've heard a rumor that MDWAP will get an HBO special.  It's back and it's hilarious.

About Last Night is a podcast by stand up comics Brad Williams and Adam Ray with interviews with comics and celebrities. It's entertaining, that's where I found the video by Preacher Lawson. It kills the time on my commute.
