Do you Keep track of your inventory?

I organize by casa--Fuente with Fuente, etc. I prolly should log more detail, to be honest

The only thing I do (used to do) was use stick on address labels that I ran through a desk top printer with the info I want for each cigar. With small font I was able to add that same basic info duplicated on each line and then cut 'em into strips, then stick them on the cello. Here lately I've been slippin. And, I don't care. 

Mine are in alphabetical order but in my own language. 

I keep a very accurate inventory of my considerable stash of leaf for rolling cigars. A spreadsheet tells me how many pounds, of what seed, of what priming, from what seller, and where I stashed it; along with a number indicating how many pounds have been ordered, a number for how many pounds I'd like to keep on hand,  and how many pounds need to be ordered. Sure, there are a few odds and ends of stuff, such as home grown leaves guys have sent me, like black mammoth or garcia or izmir or perique. But anything measured in pounds has always been carefully inventoried from the beginning.

I also keep an ad hoc inventory of batches of cigars rolled and stashed to age. This is as simple as writing the fillers, binder, wrapper and month rolled on the bottom of each stashed box, and/or banding each stick. I may progress to a spreadsheet soon. There are, of course, the odds and ends, such as blend test sticks, sticks other guys sent me, boxes busted open for current consumption, and such. But for the most part I will stash a home rolled variety a box at a time, using nice cedar boxes with good sealing flanges and latches.

I delight in reviewing these inventories at least monthly. I'll sit on the floor re-stacking my bags in their bins like Midas in his counting room. Smelling the stashed sticks, feeling their shapes, turning them over in their boxes -- probably even mumbling to myself like a psycho hoarder. Snurfling the opened bags in their coolidors thinking what all I will combine how in the near future.

Preparing leaves for binder and wrapper by bringing them up to the right dampness is an especially absorbing task. (see what I did there). 




But when it comes to store-bought sticks, I am polar opposite. Open humi, dump 'em in. Open humi, reach in, stir around a bit, grab. I've got the serious who cares for store boughts right now.

I used to spend time rooting round the humidor, snurfling the sticks, making sure I still had Ave Maria's and San Benignos, just in case. But ever since I started stashing leaves for the impending tobaccolypse, that's all gone by the board, flotsam and jetsam, no time for that.

The month I won the lottery somebody sent along some nice little Avery labels I can run through my printer.  Since then anything that is sent to me I label with who sent it and when.  This way I don't accidentally mix something that was sent to me with my own stuff and resend it out.  Also that way I know how long it has been in my possession.

The stuff I buy I don't label each individual stick but I will label the box so I know when I got it.

I tried to keep a spreadsheet for a while.  It turned into a chore with all that was coming in and going back out.  Now I just put them in the humi and enjoy. I really need to try the label thing though.

Have you rolled any with the perique? There's a few cigars blended with it, but I've never tried any of them. That's a great leaf.

Yes I have; but I have not found a decent blend with it. Just a bitty shred of perique in the center overpowers anything you pack around it. At this point, it's a one-of-these-days project.

It's all in my app.  Along with the ussual cigar info, there is a big field to put comments and tasting notes in.

I have a pretty intricate filing system, the files are generally round and go into sqaurish boxes which are stacked in a rather precarious way depending on volume. I dont have a basement full yet so I have a decent idea of what I have and where things are. on top of the humi is a stack of envelopes with names, addys and list of seegars sent to me. just seems like too much work to catalog everything though it would be nice

I made a spreadsheet. It's s pain in the arse but it does help me know when I put something into storage. As it keeps count it also lets me know when it's time to go shopping.
