    I didn't solve the problem by tearing it down. I think it's probably the clutch, and at that point it's more cost effective to replace than to repair based on parts pricing. It's cleaned up now, I may use it until it completely fails.

    I ended up ordering a new machine because even when put back together I couldn't get through a wash without an unbalance error.

    I see on Facebook Marketplace that someone is selling the drums for $30 - $50 so I see another teardown in my future.
