Under the heading of useful terms I'd like to mention these two terms that are confused often on this forum.
Hydrometer vs hygrometer
Hydrometer is an instrument that is used to measure the specific gravity, or in other words, the relative density of a liquid. Hygrometer is an instrument that is used to measure the humidity in a given volume.
You use a hydrometer to check the coolant in the radiator of your vehicle.
You use a hygrometer in your humidor/coolidor/etc. to measure it's relative humidity.
An ordinance is a law or rule or decree. Ordnance, without an “i,” means weapons or ammunition. Ordnance was derived from ordinance centuries ago, and the words have distinct meanings. The military needs a place to dispose of its out-of-date ordnance.

NCR! NCR!
Wait! I guess we do use ordnance when discussing bombs sometimes and we probably do get them confused too. I wouldn't have known the difference.

Bump again for the new guys. Bump for suggested additions. I read or hear abbreviations from time to time that I know aren't on this list and I forget to bump and add them to the list. But today I read where someone didn't know what B&M was and I remembered back when I was new to the forum and it was here for the first time I heard B&M.
Thanks guys, for the acronym, CAS. And I thought of an abbreviation that I should have added long before now, connie.
Here's an updated list with two new additions (in bold). Connie and CAS
