Do you keep a wtf jar? The extras of tobacco I've pulled out to smoke that won't fit in the bowl. When this is about half full I'll mix it and smoke some.

Yeah I’d say most of us have a scrap jar. I’ve dipped into it and wished I’d known exactly what it was and other times I’ve wondered what the hell I was thinking.
If it don’t bother me, it don’t bother me. Just leave me alone.
I tend to dump the scraps into my carry pouch that I use for motorcycle rides. As was noted above, I sometimes end up thinking "Wow, I wish I knew what that combination was, I'd do it again." Other times, not so much.

I'll sometimes dump tobacco in a pocket jar for later smoking. I'll often forget what tobacco is in what jar and sometimes combine jars so it effectively works out to be the same thing, just a bit drier since the pocket jars don't hold moisture like a regular canning jar.

The plastic base doesn't seal like a canning jar. The latest versions seal better than the original, but my tobacco still dries out so it's good for carrying tobacco around but not long term storage.

Short term, are you sure the seal is needed? I'm using makeup jars that hold 1 to two ounces for my EDC bag, nothing has dried out in the couple of weeks it might take to smoke through them.

I've no clue where you're getting your info from, but these here pocket jars are from the two companies I took time out of my day to provide links for. They both have a seal in the lid.
They both keep my pipe tobacco fresh for months.
ETA: I went and double checked. Every single one has a seal in/on the lid.

Why aren't latakia blends categorized as aromatics? Is BBQ sauce not a scent?

Because aromatics have a topping added to the tobacco. Latakia gets its flavor during part of the curing process.

But it still has a distinctive scent, like cherry or vanilla.

I call it my Haggis blend.

Seems to me that is a niche the canning jar makers could expand into. Jars 1" high, small enough to slip into a coat pocket.

I think I saw @Yakster with something like that

4 oz. = 2.3" high. I'm not sure the pipe community demand would justify a new size, economically.

The half-pint glass jars are a good diameter, just shorten them to 1".

What about one of these?

Shortest ones I see are just over 1 1/2”

Has seal oil in it, so it probably burns pretty well.
Clean it out and carry your baccy in it.

Canning jars have the rubber coating on the lid to seal against the jar. This is needed, and not included on the pocketjars.

I figure it couldn't hurt to have 3 or 4 "go to" blends canned which can be picked from while heading out the door.

Maybe just purchase a backpack to carry your seals in.

I didn't notice the seal on the pocketjarmax when I got it. My bad. Have another coming this week.

Yeah, they're just using regular canning jar lids, but the plastic base doesn't seal as well as glass so it's not airtight.
Good for carrying around, but if your like me and forget tobacco in a pocket jar and leave it too long then not so good.
