    Hey Rdp77,
So I do go to a b&m for a few special cigars, other than that, I do get a lot of them online. However, I have noticed a lot of the cigars that come in bundles or 5 packs often look a bit disfigured and don’t smoke like the ones that come out of a box. I have had some trouble with buying cigars online with them being too dry like they sat for long period of time out of the humidor. I did try to put them in my humidor to bring them back to like but the elegance was gone. Call me picky, but there are a few things I look at when choosing a cigar. The aroma, the construction of the cigar, and the structure of the wrapper. For example, I got a 5 pack of Zino platinums and compared them the one I bought out of the box at a B&M and the difference was very noticeable. I am aware of the markups at a b&m but I felt that I at least know that the cigar is fresh out of the box, and after doing my research, I found out that the premium cigars online that are super cheap are actually old stock that has been sitting for a long time, or factory seconds that did not pass inspection to be sold in a box, so it’s a way for the company to still make money and people get to smoke that line of premium cigars for cheap. The problem for me is, I know the difference and it ruined it for me. I will still buy boxes online from time to time, just not the 5 packs or samplers. All the cigars I got in those special deals look nothing like the ones from a box. I don’t know, call me crazy 🤪

Yes, I like different strengths for a different time of day or just my mood for the day. I like smooth and mild-medium cigars. In the evening when pairing with a spirit I like the medium-bold cigars. So it really just depends on my mood for the day. And yes, I always enjoy a Cuban no matter what time of day it is. The #2 for me is an exception when it comes to strength because it has an amazing balance for its boldness. It’s a bit spicy in the nose but has a beautiful finish. Fantastic paired with a sweet spiced rum. But for the most part you’re right, I don’t like a cigar to be too strong. I also am not the biggest fan of cigars that have a strong pepper note. A little bit is fine, but too spicy…my nose doesn’t want it.

    Hi @Ross_G89

Somehow, I get a feeling like this is going to become an irresistible force meeting an unmoveable object.

I’m just curious where you found the research that said that regarding cigars that are sold online? I’ve heard that sort of thing come from b&m owners, never from manufacturers. From what little research I’ve done one the subject, I’ve found that many 5pks are shipped from the factory that way. It’s not necessarily that it gives the consumer the chance to buy the brand cheaper…it’s that the manufacturer can sell the cigars cheaper without the added cost of color sorting and boxing. All the numbers I’ve seen show that 5pks and samplers move cigars faster than boxes. So them being “old” stock makes no sense to me. To each their own. Research is always good.

If it don’t bother me, it don’t bother me. Just leave me alone.

Rdp77: I found this information through multiple sites, online videos, and in house sources. The 5 packs from the manufacturer is a great way for them to move product because people are more often going to buy cheaper options, especially if they can get multiple kinds. Not saying all online company’s sell the seconds or the older stock, but a majority of them do. They may not even know they are selling the seconds, especially since they are packaged that way from the manufacturer. But it wouldn’t make sense if I could buy a pack of 20 for $100 when the box on the same site costs over $300 for 20. It’s just business. Not to mention they also do this for promotional reasons, trying to get people to try their brand.

My head is spinning with all the nonsensical bullshit being spewed. If you like a Gurkha Titan and in the same breath mention Opus…. You’re only looking at MSRP. I’ve had both Zino from 5 packs and Zino from Tubos…. There is a tremendous difference. One tastes like ass and the other tastes like turds. Both options are over priced. Structure of the wrapper and looks of a wrapper have never played into how I choose a cigar. Some wrapper types just look like shitt all the time but still taste amazing. Aroma! LOL. **** hell!

We all smoke cigars for different reasons. Same could be said for cigarette smokers who choose the brand that uses scraps from the garbage compared to those who smoke the high end cigarettes. Both smokes but one smokes because of a budget and one for quality. But both do the same thing. You can cover a POS in gold, but you still have a POS. I don’t smoke cigars just because I can, but because cigars are truly an art that some people just can’t stand back far enough from to see. Some may call it “nonsensical bullshit” but that’s what makes us different. I will always choose quality over quantity. Thank you all for your opinions. And ideas of what cigars to try?

You mentioned Cohiba, Gurkha, Graycliff and Cuban cigars and you think any of those are quality? Those are 4 I would say are the furthest thing from quality. You read Cigar Aficionado monthly and come preaching bullshit to guys who have smoked more cigars this year then you have in your life. I will learn exactly zero from you and forget more then you learn in a life time.

    Welcome, Ross.
I'm into Stolen Throne and El Septimo Geneva 7 right now. @OutdoorsSmoke_21191 swears by the blue Septimos but I'm partial to the green. Everyone here pretty much agrees the reds are just ok.

    Edit to remove an apostrophe.

Edit#2: @Ross_G89 When you mentioned the golden túrd, were you referring to the Daniel Marshall? Would be funny if you did.

@Ross_G89 from what I’ve read so far it seems you know more than you let on. I think you will be just fine figuring out what you want, need, like in a cigar. Can’t wait to hear about your experiences on your quest.

Welcome, Ross. Pretty much anything from A.J. Fernandez, especially the San Lotano, Man O'War, and Ave Maria lines.

I'd also recommend the Nica Rustica line from Drew Estate. The Adobe is pretty good!

All I’m hearing from you is rude and disrespectful comments. If you don’t like those cigars I mentioned then give me a recommendation instead of sitting there insulting me. I have never read this so called “cigar aficionado’s. If you say those cigars are not quality then take the **** out of your mouth so you can taste things better. I don’t even know why you respond. Next time let’s hear your mouth talk instead of your ass! Thank you for your worthless comments.

For the others who actually gave me recommendation’s, thank you very much.
Hobbes: yes I have tried the MoW. I have a couple Armadas in my humidor, I enjoy them, and I do love the Ave Maria line. I have yet to try the Holy Grail or the Divina.
A brand I haven’t tried but hear good things about was San Cristobal. I haven’t looked into
them yet but the prices seem very fair.
Back from the beginning someone mentioned the Macanudo line. Again, another cigar I haven’t tried yet tried but very interested, again the prices look great. I think I will try the macanudo next. Thank you all!

Thanks outdoorsmokes, I will not be replying to such comments anymore. As I said before, everyone has an opinion, doesn’t mean one is right and the other is wrong.
And yes, I know who makes the cigars, I was curious as if anyone has tried the Trinidad Espiritu or the San Cristobal line. Both have great ratings and reviews.

I know I have seen the Trinidad in the what are you smoking(some time of day) thread a few times. It seems some of us enjoy them but I haven't had the opportunity to try them myself yet.

No one has ever equated a Gurkha Cigar to quality…. Never. Trust me when I say I’m more done with you than you are with me. You asked about trying a San Cristobal and a Trinidad, both of which can be had for about $5-6 dollars a cigar….. buy them and try them on your own. What does our opinion matter about what we find enjoyable in a cigar where your palate is different than everyone else’s.

IMHO both are pretty decent sticks…according to my palate, of course.

So I think you’re getting the wrong idea, I don’t care about MSRP or how cheap I can find them for. I’m not asking you to spend my money for me, I’m a big boy and I can choose what I want to spend my money on. I’m asking about specific cigars and wanting feedback. I don’t buy cigars because they are expensive if that’s what you’re thinking. I care about the few things I mentioned like aroma and construction etc. I’m a pretty chill guy who loves cigar talk, and if you would have given me a chance you would have seen that. You treat me like I’m some rich snob who just throws money away at the most expensive cigars, but I’m actually a below-average Joe working and going to school full time and I found cigars are my way to take time out of the day to just escape from the world for a bit.
But I will not be responding anymore to this immature behavior. You want to talk cigars, I’m open to it. You want to be rude…forget it.
