If i had found C&D Dark Burley, Peter Stokkebye PS41 Cube Cut and Orlik Golden Sliced at the beginning of my piping journey, I would have saved hundreds of dollars not buying tobacco i MIGHT like.

Not sure this is stupid on my end or others? I’ve spoken with @Rdp77 a bit about this before. In my short time with this hobby I have been fortunate enough to have tried several aged tobacco’s and many others that are no longer available.
Almost every time I walk away grateful for the opportunity and experience. However, I also, walk away thinking to myself, I would never pay the exorbitant prices these tobacco’s command in today’s market.
Don’t get me wrong, some I have enjoyed immensely. Also, yes, I have succumbed to the hype on a few tins in my “not knowing WTH I was doing” earlier stage.
I’m assuming most of these coveted tobacco’s have been hyped up so much that the folklore outweighs common sense??? Also, I’m aware that the Asian market drives most of these higher prices. I have to imagine as supplies decline prices will continue to soar. What happens when the supply is depleted?
What’s next?
There are so many good tobaccos out there in normal everyday prices to choose from.

That’s the great thing about this community and a lot of the people in it. We get to try those things, enjoy them, and be grateful for the opportunity while not having to pay those ridiculous prices.
You see the same thing with everything from cigars and whiskey to cars and guns. People get caught up in hype or a brand name. Some are smart enough to get past it and some will stand on it til death to try to prove themselves right in their own mind. Luckily we have this group here to keep our sense about us..
For the most part 🤣If it don’t bother me, it don’t bother me. Just leave me alone.

Quick question. I have a couple square tins in my stash. Do those stay vacuum sealed well or no?

Most of my Gawith stuff in the rectangle tins has held up well too except for a couple. Every so often I just squeeze the lid and if I feel and give I jar them.

@ShawnOL I agree with @Rdp77 regarding unopened square or rectangular tins. Where I would engage caution, is after those tins are opened. The square and rectangular tins are not created equal. Some seal well while others not so much. I’m no engineer but the hard corners remain constant while the sides beneath the lid tend to suck in minutely, upon opening, allowing air to creep through over time. Somebody please fact check me. 🤓

Ok, thanks. Makes sense.

Any of you actually tried simmering like this? Seems gimmicky to me. Like would you have to look straight up when lighting and puffing not to burn it?

I've never tried one, but I've read that they're good for smoking while riding a motorcycle, maybe in the rain too.
I think you're overestimating the difficulty of lighting something like this, I've seen horn pipes where the chamber was almost horizontal, you should be able to use a soft flame in front of the briar pipe so the flame is in front of the pipe but not touching the rim and just draw the flame in when you puff on it to light it.

I can understand the lighting of it but it just seems to me it wouldn’t burn well. I’d assume the ash would build up on the side while the cherry burns top down especially if doing an activity like riding a molecule where it’s kinda getting shook up and gravity isn’t pulling it towards the…. Shank??? Where the air flows when puffing on it

Ash will definitely fall out, which can be a good thing if you watch for it lol.

I have one and have smoked it many times. @Rdp77 is correct. Ribbon cut or fine shag cut is really the only way to go. Both need to be packed more than normal. One, to keep it burning and two, to keep the tobacco from falling out when you naturally hold it like a cigar. Ask me how I know this lol. It’s a great pocket pipe because of the cap. However, wind will blow ash in your face. I guess all in all it’s an ok smoker. Kinda gimmicky but does work as advertised. I don’t reach for it much because it’s more work than leisure to smoke. My recommendation would be to use the money for a more traditional pipe.

Thanks for the introduction to another forum @Yakster i has to sign up and get mod approved to see em but sounds looks they are the real deal. I don’t think they’re for me but to each their own.
@Rdp77 i gotta figure out how to pack a regular bowl before I’d consider that haha. Other than Aeros I think I’ve got it figured out most of the time
