Compare that sound to the sound that one of your recently purchased, or otherwise well humidified cigar makes when you do the same. Ideally you want little to no sound. If there's a lot of crinkly crackly sounds, that is not ideal. If little pieces of the wrapper and binder fall off, that means it's a goner.
I don't have a name for that test, but I do it all the time if I'm the least bit curious of a cigar's condition.
