Re: Pipe tips for Cigar People, what we've learned...
Because I suck at the fold method for flake I take a slightly different approach. I tear the flake, based on bowl depth, slightly lower than the bowl surface. Pack accordingly, not too tight. Then I kinda push the tops down a bit with my finger. Lastly, I will sprinkle the top of the bowl with flake dust (intentionally, over rubbed flake) to initiate the lighting. I’m not as good as my fellow flake smokers, so I improvised. Whatever works, right?

I do have a basic "spice" grinder but rarely use it. I also usually don't rub out coins or flakes, instead preferring to fold and stuff them for a nice, rich, longer smoke. It's not as easy to keep lit, but I find it rewarding. Drying out the tobacco first really helps.
This old thread on Pipe Smoker's Den really helped me learn to love pressed tobacco, but I think most pipe smokers prefer to rub the tobacco out before smoking.
