A glance at the bright green fields of monoculture spotless and big free tobacco tells you the plants have been chemically protected from insects and heavily fertilized. Add to that the fungicides used in the curing barns and you discover why no maker claims their cigars are "organic". As for Drew Estate adding other stuff I don't know. Craig Tarler at C&D once sent me a lb of the fungicides he used on all the blends of pipe tobacco when I asked him how to keep the box-pressed plugs I was trying to make kept getting moldy.

When you’re smoking a cigar and can see two very distinct burn lines and two different colors of smoke coming from the foot something isn’t right.

I received this yesterday and smoked them with no dry time in the cold, damp back yard while it was misting and raining so my prep wasn't ideal.
The RDH / RDSD was sugar sweet but you could get the good taste of the dark VA tobacco. It has a lot more tobacco flavor and Lakeland essence than Brown Sugar Flake and even seems a bit sweeter too.
The Aniseed Twist smelled great, tasted of a light black licorice, but I didn't get all that much tobacco flavor, mostly the anise. It was not overly sweet or cloying, a bit one-dimensional, but I enjoyed it. I'm curious how it would mix with 1792, Coniston Cut Plug or maybe Canon Plug.

Wildfire smoke linked with dementia risk
Higher long-term exposure to wildfire smoke was associated with significantly higher odds of developing dementia, according to a large California study.
Researchers analyzed data collected between 2008 and 2019 from 1.2 million residents of southern California, aged 60 and older, all of whom were free from dementia at the start of the study. They estimated each person’s long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air pollution as a three-year rolling average.
For every 1 microgram per cubic meter increase in the concentration of wildfire PM2.5, the odds of a dementia diagnosis increased by 18%, according to a report published on Monday in JAMA Neurology.
Exposure to non-wildfire PM2.5 also increased a person’s risk of dementia, but to a much lesser degree, the study found.
“One microgram per meter cubed might sound fairly small, but we have to think about how people are exposed to wildfire smoke,” study leader Joan Casey of the University of Washington in Seattle said in a statement.
On most days, people aren’t exposed to wildfire smoke at all, she pointed out.
“So this might represent a few days of exposure at a concentration of something like 300 (micrograms per cubic meter), where the Air Quality Index is over 200 in someone’s community... it’s actually a few really severe wildfire smoke days that might translate into increased risk.”
Strategies for reducing exposure to wildfire smoke pollution are available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Latest news is not so good. Whole family is in town, Doctor has told them that he is going into kidney and liver failure. He's on dialysis ATM, still sedated and intubated. Waiting for his functions to come back on. One step forward, two back. Please keep those prayers and we'll wishes coming.
