Todd, this was my question:
You have something at “x” miles away
It’s traveling at a speed of “y”
How do you find out how long it takes to go from point a to point b?
I don’t get the response.
At what point did I not use compatible units of measure considering I never mentioned a unit of measure? I’m not trying to be “right” and I’m not trying to say you’re “ wrong”. I asked a legitimate question. Stay out of the political thread, people can discuss something without having to be right or wrong.
Without going back through it all, I don't know that you used incompatible units of measure. I was using the term "You" as a generic term, as you were in what you just quoted "You have something at "x" miles away". However, I discovered that Peter used incompatible units (or the article he referenced used incompatible units) to come up with 600 million years ago, because the math was just wrong. You seemed to agree with Peter, and you did state "The speed at which light travels is not the same as the amount of time it takes for something to become visible over such a distance." This is simply wrong, as math is either right or wrong, it doesn't care. It is the same when it is expressed in light years. I am not trying to be right either, but I know when I am (and Peter has confirmed with his latest post including the correction or change in the article he referenced). It is not an indictment of you, you always impress me with your wide and deep knowledge base on many issues. Sincerely.
And now, let's take Peter's suggestion, and move on to another topic.

Monsoon. I hope you have a dehumidifier down there so things don't get moldy.
The dehumidifier is running non-stop. I monitor the basement humidity fastidiously because, as you know, high humidity is the main enemy of green coffee. Right now it's ~70%.
Fun fact: my dehumidifier was left here by the previous owner... almost 43 years ago.
Yesterday after a breakfast of blueberry pancakes we went by my MILs for several hours. It's been a real busy summer, with a couple of camping trips and my Wife's trip to Japan for a couple of weeks and now school starting up so it was time for a catch-up. Kim brough over some of the Zupa Toscana soup she made and some souvenirs from Japan.
After catching up we headed out to Lowes to pick up some more shade cloth and other parts for my shady project but swung by a small thrift store near my MILs, much to my Wife's pleasure. I was hunting for some paperbacks, she for clothes and housewares. I picked up two James Patterson's and this one that I'm starting this morning, Lee Child's The Midnight Line from the Jack Reacher series. I've enjoyed watching the series but never read any of the books, so far I'm really enjoying this one. Oversized paperback, generous print size, should be a good read.
Glad to hear you have a paddle for that creek, Peter.
Right now I'm enjoying a morning pipe with coffee and right now at 7:00 AM it's a nice, cool 61.5 F outside with 62 % humidity. I'm afraid it's going to be another hot one today, with the heat threatening my plans to enjoy a free outdoor concert tonight.
