Cannabis use in adolescents may lead to thinning of the cerebral cortex, a key brain region for cognitive function. Researchers found that THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, causes the shrinking of dendrites, which are crucial for neuron communication.
This atrophy may affect the brain’s ability to learn, cope, and interact socially, increasing vulnerability during a critical period of brain development. The findings emphasize the need for further understanding of cannabis’s effects on adolescent brain maturation.
Key Facts:
THC in cannabis causes thinning of the cerebral cortex in adolescents.
Dendrites, essential for neuron communication, shrink due to cannabis use.
This thinning may impair learning, social interaction, and coping abilities.

Interesting. And yet, some of the most socially interactive, intelligent, creative, productive people I know have used it almost daily for 50 years or more. How long before the negative aspects begin to emerge?
In other words, I really don't trust any "research" done by either side on this issue, preferring to stick to real life observations. I remember the "government scientists" that came to our High School and assured us that if one were to partake of the devil weed more than 10 times, we most likely would no longer recognize our closest family members and would most assuredly commit heinous crimes endangering our friends and family.
Perhaps this research is true? But, it doesn't correlate to what I've seen in my lifetime, so, I'll just dismiss this as another propaganda piece.

Does immigration really drive up crime? Not according to the evidence
by Paolo Pinotti and Olivier Marie, The Conversation
Immigration and crime were once again central themes throughout the US presidential election campaign. The belief that immigration drives up crime is one of the oldest—and strongest—convictions held by the public, spanning over a century in the US and elsewhere.
This view remains deeply rooted despite mounting evidence to the contrary, in large part thanks to politicians such as Donald Trump, who are all too keen to amplify this narrative. Since his first presidential campaign announcement in June 2015, Trump has persistently linked immigration to crime.
...
But what does the evidence really show? Our analysis reveals that studies consistently find no causal link between immigration and increased crime across a variety of countries. Research from the US, including both older and more recent studies, as well as research on Italy and the UK, demonstrates that immigration does not have a significant impact on crime rates.
Depends on what kind of crime, too. A lot of contractors and farmers knowingly hire illegals. So they are the criminals too. Substandard wages, often under the table = tax fraud and violation of labor laws. The stats show only they ones that are caught.
Which kinda goes to my point. People trying to change the actual meanings of words to make someone else out to be a liar has become ridiculous. The media has made it taboo to use the words “illegal aliens” just for this purpose. By doing so they have blurred peoples’ conception and perception of what is actually what and driven that proverbial wedge even deeper. Articles like that are complete bullshít in my opinion simply for those reasons….and it doesn’t matter which side of the aisle the media outlet leans towards. It’s all bullshít. People twist words too damn much and too many people get twisted because of it.

Wildfire smoke linked with dementia risk
Higher long-term exposure to wildfire smoke was associated with significantly higher odds of developing dementia, according to a large California study.
Researchers analyzed data collected between 2008 and 2019 from 1.2 million residents of southern California, aged 60 and older, all of whom were free from dementia at the start of the study. They estimated each person’s long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air pollution as a three-year rolling average.
For every 1 microgram per cubic meter increase in the concentration of wildfire PM2.5, the odds of a dementia diagnosis increased by 18%, according to a report published on Monday in JAMA Neurology.
Exposure to non-wildfire PM2.5 also increased a person’s risk of dementia, but to a much lesser degree, the study found.
“One microgram per meter cubed might sound fairly small, but we have to think about how people are exposed to wildfire smoke,” study leader Joan Casey of the University of Washington in Seattle said in a statement.
On most days, people aren’t exposed to wildfire smoke at all, she pointed out.
“So this might represent a few days of exposure at a concentration of something like 300 (micrograms per cubic meter), where the Air Quality Index is over 200 in someone’s community... it’s actually a few really severe wildfire smoke days that might translate into increased risk.”
Strategies for reducing exposure to wildfire smoke pollution are available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
