The answer is there if you combines some of words from different posts @d_blades is I think on point and I believe he knows the answer. The answer is opposite of Frank's "Blob Man." This should be the final clue.
***** ***** Man is a 1934 American comedy-mystery directed by W. S. Van **** and based on the novel of the same name by Dashiell Hammett. The film stars William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles, a leisure-class couple who enjoy copious drinking and flirtatious banter. Nick is a retired police detective who left his very successful career when he married Nora, a wealthy heiress accustomed to high society. Their wire-haired fox terrier Asta was played by canine actor Skippy. In 1997, the film was added to the United States National Film Registry having been deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
I never answered and have no need to put myself thru this much BS. Beside the fact that I was the previous winner. Don't make me invoke the @Wylaff gambit.

That narrows it down. A lot of good movies from that time period. However, I think that you are not exactly correct with when you think this movie takes place. The movie you're thinking of is boogie nights.

I'm thinking a more recent movie might be in order. This one's set in the late 70's, early 80's.
