haha, I thought to go that route duty, but figured all of two people might follow the meaning. Oh, and is an electician someone who "elects" as a profession?

Dang...I don't know how it is out in Louisiana, but out here that's a pretty elite union...one of those "you gotta know somebody" type unions if I have my info correct that is.

Well, I work kind of in the El paso, New Orleans, Chicago triangle. Not just Louisiana. But,yes, it does help to know someone, although not entirely exclusive.

You poor soul. So you get the people that were to stupid for level one support but not intelligent enough to have a problem worthy of level 3.

well, we arent really a call center so it could be worse. half the cases that come in get closed within 5 days or so cause the |user never calls back, 1/4 of them are cases the front level should have been able to fix if they put forth SOME effort in troubleshooting. the other 1/4 are legit problems, most of which are failing hardware and get fedexed to me. im not sure I want to do level 3 support, I actually started off in an IT group at the state back in cali that was all inclusive, we did all deskside support and server/network support. I think id like somthing like that again. big business these days has a front level helpdesk that is worth ***, a second level that is stretched so thin you cant get anything done, and then level 3 support groups that are so specialised you get people working on servers that couldnt troubleshoot to save their lives. I dont want to be in one of those groups. so here I sit telling people to flick the switch on the side of their laptops to turn the wifi back on. someday I will find a job in a small-midsize office where I can actually do some inovating.

No offense to your job higgs someone has to do it and I hope you're compensated well but I swore to myself I'd never do support. I had to do a little in my last job but I was all levels and I was the entire IT department so it was fun.
  • Joz3r-We do comercial-industrial-but specialize in utility (water-waste water treatment). Been doing this since 1974.

Dang, you've got more than a few years on me in the trade. That's a cool niche, specialized/hazardous areas always make for some good code research, though with your years in the trade, I'd bet you've seen just about everything at this point.

I started doing light-commercial myself, restaurants mostly. I've recently changed companies and am focusing more on heavy commercial and, possibly soon, some industrial and hospital work. Never a dull moment.
  • Yeah joz- I've been around awhile. Worked on everything from a telephone booth to a nuclear powerhouse.  We also do alot of sports lighting. I'm from northwest Arkansas. Yeah I know it's Bill Clinton's state but remember he came up with some cool tricks to do with cigars. Give them a unique flavor.

  • server/bartender at an applebee's. I'm not a fan of my job, but someone has to get people their waters and boneless wings.

And I appreciate the effort. I never had a bad experience at Applebee's. My daughter use to work at a Jimmy Buffets " Cheeseburger in Paradise" from her related experiences, food service is a rather un-gratifying profession.
  • yes very ungratifying.  Now would you get us all a beer?

I dunno. I've got three close friends who used to be waiters and now have more lucrative careers. All of them loved waitering.

I don't think they ever served at an Applebee's on the outskirts of the ghetto

that is the worst part. the patrons suck. Ive worked at several applebees. That one is the hardest one to work at.

i like the food service industry. I get to make hundreds of people happy every day via food.
i like food so much that my second job is a gourmet chocolate company. If you are in ohio you too can taste our products.
