Their teenage sons died by suicide. Now, they are sounding an alarm about AI chatbots

Matthew Raine and his wife, Maria, had no idea that their 16-year-old-son, Adam was deep in a suicidal crisis until he took his own life in April. Looking through his phone after his death, they stumbled upon extended conversations the teenager had had with ChatGPT.

Those conversations revealed that their son had confided in the AI chatbot about his suicidal thoughts and plans. Not only did the chatbot discourage him to seek help from his parents, it even offered to write his suicide note, according to Matthew Raine, who testified at a Senate hearing about the harms of AI chatbots held Tuesday.

What a sad story, @silvermouse. A reminder that advancements in AI should be thoroughly thought-through and that parents should always be aware of what their kids are doing online.

A new company called Sandbar has unveiled a smart wearable called Stream Ring, which uses a microphone to record your softly spoken thoughts. And it’s powered by—you guessed it—an AI chatbot.

Meta internally projected late last year that it would earn about 10% of its overall annual revenue – or $16 billion – from running advertising for scams and banned goods, internal company documents show.

Despite what Ian and Bob think, I'm not one to die on a hill when I say something incorrect or am proven wrong.

That said, I've often said that voting is a waste of time because your vote never determines the outcome. Well I've been proven wrong (again, as many would say). A vote in Gerlach, NV ended in a tie.

In true Nevada fashion, the winner was determined by drawing for high card, which is a state law 😂

**Tldr for Bob: Vote counts. Frank wrong. 'Merica good. **

    Nicely done, Frank.

Woah woah, now. I have never considered you'd die on a hill. In a gutter or a ditch maybe, not a hill.

His death on the hill would be caused by actually climbing the hill.

Had to look it up to see what all the fuss was about. I’d love to see that technology come into some riding boots at a fraction of the cost. It would make for long trips through rain and cold a little nicer.

Before the recent forum site update, you used to be able to login via your phone, tablet, PC seamlessly with no issues.

However, if you’ve primarily been using your phone or iPad and then try to log on via PC, you will be asked, after logging in to the site, to enter your username. It will not recognize your old username so you put in a new one just to get you in. That now becomes your new username forever.
