Oxford Languages: Middle English: from Old Norse geta ‘obtain, beget, guess’; related to Old English gietan (in begietan ‘beget’, forgietan ‘forget’), from an Indo-European root shared by Latin praeda ‘booty, prey’, praehendere ‘get hold of, seize’, and Greek khandanein ‘hold, contain, be able’.
Stroppyeditor.wordpress.com: In British English, the past participle is also got. But in American English, it's more complex. Roughly: when talking about a static situation (possessing or needing) the past participle is got; when talking about a dynamic situation (acquiring or becoming) the past participle is gotten.
Quora: No, using the word gotten is not informal, and the word is not slang. It is a perfectly normal part of American English, and is grammatically correct when used properly. And, importantly, it does not mean the same thing as got.

^^ reminds me of one of the women I used to work with talking about
"the newspaper said he had over 100 rounds of ammunition!, gasp!" regarding something she'd read somewhere.
"So what" I said.
"Well, that's more than anyone should be allowed to have!"
visualize spit-take here on my part, coffee all over the desk
"How much do YOU have?" She asked.
"Not much" I replied "Maybe 3 or 4 thousand rounds altogether. Thanks for the reminder, I need to pick some up."
pause
"You're serious!" she said.
"You betcha. How're you going to hit anything if you can't practice?"
The concept left her stunned. Finally she looked at me and said "You're the kind of old man that scares me."
"Thanks"

Last two days I had to jump my truck to get it started. Went to my usual battery place and dropped the truck. I have been doing business in batteries and tires at this place for 40 years.
I hoofed it across town and across a small river to the post office and mailed the lotto win to Carl. Next was the library where I went through three boxes of donated CD's and I picked out 24 Jazz, rock, country and classical. I donated $15 for them. On the way back to pick up my truck I went in the bank and cashed a check. My truck was outside when I got back so I went in and found my battery was under warranty so no charge. I cranked her up and drove the load to the dumpster site for trash and recycling. On the way back to the house I reflected on how it is so nice to live in the country.
I made it to the post office today, been dreading that for a couple weeks. If I want to go fishing I just go but I can come up with a hundred reasons to avoid that PO.
Got the Raspberry Pi PI-Hole DNS Sinkhole set up and tested this morning and disrupted the whole network. I'll have to reconfigure to use the Ethernet port later instead of running it wirelessly and retest.
Went through my coats and jackets to see which ones to keep
Replaced the propane tank on my patio heater and test fired it, working good. I'll have to refill some tanks soon.
Also charged and paired my bluetooth beanie for use on vHerf now that the hawk is out here.

Cleaned up the thrift store rack with Murphy's Oil Soap and figuring out how to hold pipes in it. Ordered some brown felt and brown ty-wraps to act as dividers to keep them from toppling.

I found my missing Xikar VX2 V-cutter this morning in the cushions of my recliner while I was looking for the TV remote.
I guess I didn't need to order those two Colibri V-cutters after all, but at least this will give me the opportunity to do a long term comparison between the two cutters.

Opened up our last collards bed yesterday. Cut them all. We have enough for three messes. Will blanch and freeze two messes and cook one tonight.
Found a large canvas at the thrift store 48" by 60". Nice picture on it but will probably overpaint with gesso and paint my own picture. Another challenge, working BIG.
I was gifted a “broken” lathe, one $10.00 part, some cleaning, taking apart and putting back together she’s humming like new. Any tips Roger @First_Warrior? Never used one but excited to give it a go.

Well the best advice I can give you is to not under any circumstances turn naked.
That's the first bit of advice. The next is to learn to sharpen lathe tools. The next is to join the American Ass. of Woodturners and the flood gates will open. The danger will cause you to focus and turning is FUN.
He gave me a set of lathe tools with it. They don’t look like I can sharpen them by hand. Vertical sander here we go! I really like giving new life to “broken” tools. I’m about to head down another rabbit hole. Wish me luck!

Just noticed that Patrickbrick earned the Tenth Anniversary badge.
In a different thread I used the word "gotten". What the hell kind of word is that? It just looks wrong.
I've gotten used to it....
Strong roots.

Ooph, I told you folks it’s out there.
Driving to Florida (St. Augustine area) tomorrow, to visit some old friends.
Safe travels.
Sitting in candlelight waiting for the power to be restored. It's a pretty small outage, probably someone took out a pole.
Don't let the wife know what you spend on guns, ammo or cigars.
Pork in the smoker.
Two of my three boys are at home right now, so we took out several of the 9mm's and a few others out. Had a blast, pun intended.

In total, we burnt thru just over 800 rounds...today.
Celebrating New Year's Eve with the last Asian pear from our August harvest. Kept way longer than I expected in the refrigerator.

Sounds like a great day!
Installed Raspberry Pi OS on a micro-SD card. Combined eggnog, rum, and nutmeg to enjoy with the family.
Assembled the Raspberry PI board in the case and connected the heat sinks and fan while enjoying a short pour of Papa's Pilar rum.
Rhys and his mullet are ready for hockey and we finally got snow
I thought that was a rubber ducky on your dash. You really should have a guide animal there.
