This new editor really blows. I've got to go into desktop mode on my god damn cell phone. Let me test this out with an emoji or two 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

Gentlemen, do not be selfish. Please consider everyone's concerns. Can we all agree that the highest priority is that @miller65rod's posts are not adversely affected?

Rules to live by. 1. Don't give us something, then take it away. Tends to piss people off. 2. Don't make crap harder than it should be. 3. If it ain't broke, don't f*** with it. 4. There is a time, when you have to ask yourself, "If we change this, now many people will it piss off?" If the answer is more than 1, leave it the hell alone. 4. Your way isn't the best way. 5. If you are the only one in a meeting that likes your idea, your idea probably sucks. 6. Be smart enough to realize you aren't smart enough.
That being said, at any time, if someone would like to fix this POS forum, so it works like it should on Android and iOS, that would be just swell.
In Fumo Pax Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy cigars and that's close enough.
Nah... I don't think we're being difficult, we just know what works and how the forum should be, which makes me think those who are tinkering with things (probably trying to help and keep us happy) simply aren't the ones using the forum and are in a way, flying blind. Hell, they probably aren't even cigar smokers, LOL. If they are, then tell them to get on the forum, like you, and in participating they'll know what needs to be fixed.

Thanks for working with IT on trying to improve the forum for us.
Ok, here's my understanding, there was not patch or ongoing tweaks to the site, rather IT switched from the old Advanced Editor to the new, more modern Rich editor in their configuration panel to see if this would help with the forum experience after collecting reports of forum issues. Here's my feedback.
I don't mind the new Rich editor when I'm on my PC. Not sure it solved any problems, I was able to use the old Advanced editor pretty well, but since I sometimes play with HTML tags and the like I'm more used to that kind of thing.
This change really killed the mobile experience. When browsing with a mobile device in mobile view, you don't see the Rich editor, rather you see a stripped down version of what we had before and there's no longer the ability to quote previous messages and uploads show up as thumbnails instead of embedded images which is really frustrating. I thought yesterday that switching to the desktop view on my phone's browser would get the Rich editor to show up on mobile devices, I tested this on my iPhone yesterday with the Safari browser, but the desktop view is a real pain in the you-know-what, especially for small screens. I tried to upload a photo last night from my android and couldn't figure out how to do it so that it would show up as anything but a thumbnail, even after switching to desktop mode on my Chrome browser.
Here's my thoughts going forward:
If it's possible to configure the site to use the rich editor for PCs but use the old advanced editor for mobile devices, that would probably be the best solution. It would give mobile users back the features that are now missing or broken and have a nicer editor for PC users.
If that's not possible, I'd recommend going back to the way it was before using the Advanced editor.
My two cents.

So here's the deal: CCOM does not technically host this Forum. (I cannot stress this enough. This is not on an internal server, so please bear with us as we have limited people capabilities when it comes to this kind of stuff.) Between myself and one or two other people in the Corporate office who act as Moderators, that's the only internal involvement CCOM technically has here.
We have a contract with a third-party platform, and we are able to make basic changes that are mostly aesthetic, and then change the format with which people post. As far as I've been told by those who work at the hosting platform, there isn't much else that can be done. I will circle back with the hosting platform to see if there is more on the Admin side they can institute, and will update you all once they get me that info.
@Yakster -- I hear you, and I appreciate you voicing your concerns and opinions clearly. To my knowledge the program used for the Forum only allows for the Richtext editor or the old version - known as Wysywig - and not a splitting between mobile and desktop interfaces.
I was told by two different people at the hosting platform that switching to Richtext for posting would alleviate the occurrence of many of the commonly-cited examples within this thread where users desired change. In a very simple way, the platform said we were still employing an old program, but switching to Richtext would prevent the issues with line breaks (long posts), photos, etc.
In a meeting I had earlier in the week, I was shown the Admin portal for the Forum, and it's pretty simplistic. (And that's saying a lot considering I'm not a techie in any way, shape, or form.) Aside from the posting format, the only other options for change or customization involved colours of backgrounds and banners, the emojis, and what information could be included + shown in one's profile.
Since the old version is what a fair number of you seemingly prefer after being exposed to Richtext, I will go and have an Admin switch things back to Wysywig so there isn't such a dichotomy between Deskop and Mobile.
Thanks for your efforts. For whatever reason, human beings are never satisfied, and we're no exception. It's frustrating when you've learned how to do something, and then it changes.

@silvermouse - Since you guys complained about Wysiwyg before and that's what we will be going back to, I suppose getting a head-start on the kvetching and kvelling can't hurt. LOL
Me, I'm happy either way. Old age has made my joints stiffer but my tech skills more pliable. Helps to be the world's oldest geek, I spose. The prob is that developers feel compelled to change for the sake of change. That tendency won't go away.

^^^^^What Tony said.
With all due respect, if ya keep applying patches long enough, pretty soon all you have is one humongous patch with nothing of the original remaining.
Capisce?? 😎

WTF?
You can no longer edit/crop/shorten quotes?
How do you screw up a forum? Ask Ccom tech people, they done a real good job of it.

cool, thanks for the info and effort, @TheCigarChick. Does this mean we can start complaining about WYSIWYG now or do we have to wait?
