I could hear frogs/toads croaking from 1/4 mile away, I heard crickets chirping and the buzz of insects' wings, I heard bats "clicking" and I heard the screech of a far off owl.
It was cool enough that the neighbors' a/c units were off, we had the house fans turned off, and it was late enough at night there was no traffic noise....so quiet, awesome.

i love nights when the only thing you can hear is the burning of your cigar.

This was about 11-11:30 at night, too late for a week-night cigar for me but I was up reading a book instead.
Sometimes on the weekend though I'll get up early and have a morning-cigar and it's just as quiet on those mornings as it was last night. It's a different "quiet" though (obviously) with the song birds' morning symphony replacing the insects and nocturnal creatures' sounds.
And I'm with you Kuzi, it's absolutely wonderful when the only "noise" is from nature and from the cigar...
But when I lit my cigar earlier in the evening yesterday it (sadly) wasn't as quiet then...at the time of my smoke, the neighbor's dog was going ape$hit crazy barking and there was some car noise every 5 minutes or so but it was still ok.
