How do you like them? What is your favorite brand, favorite style?
If you don't like them....do your parents know you're a communist?

King Oscar wild caught sardines Mediterranean style in olive oil, red bell peppers, garlic and black olives. Best sardines I have found.3

King Oscar, the tiny ones, in olive oil, on saltines, with mustard, and a pickle on th side. I ate these cans by the hunnerds when I was a sailor. Best sailing rations ever. And the empty cans make decent chum, too.“It has been a source of great pain to me to have met with so many among [my] opponents who had not the liberality to distinguish between political and social opposition; who transferred at once to the person, the hatred they bore to his political opinions.” —Thomas Jefferson (1808)

Wild Planet. Newer brand. Pretty tasty. I like to cook them into my pasta sauce to trick everyone else into eating them."Cooking isn't about struggling; It's about pleasure. It's like sǝx, with a wider variety of sauces."

Remember eating them as a kid. Some years back i forgot my lunch, stopped at a road side market, picked up some sardines, had a wonderful lunch. About hour later I had the runs, and since then I have never had another sardine.I was born a fool, and just got bigger!7

I prefer mustard or hot sauce with the canned fish products, but just about any will do me fine. Herring, kipper snacks, salmon, sardines -expired or not, I eat it.
And that picture is after my downsizing a few years back when I decided to cut down on my canned goods I keep stored. I ate Spam for about 3 months almost daily...sad to say I only keep less than 2 dozen cans of Bacon Spam now. It's still a favorite I have occasionally. Stuff will keep forever."Love is a dung heap, Betty and I am but a c.o.c.k. that climbs upon it to crow."2 -
canned in olive oil on steamed rice is my jam!
down to my last one.

And frozen they’re great bait for striped bass.... 👴🏻3

Beach Cliff brand sardines in oil, hot sauce, crackers, Colby cheese, and ice cold Old Style. The typical lunch with my father when we worked together in the asphalt paving business.
He also taught me how to get Vienna sausages out of the can without squashing em.

King Oscar oil, was eating a can at work when running shovel and the can tipped over and drained the oil into the heating vent, no way to get in there to clean it up, the guy on the next shift hated me.A little dirt never hurt11

My wife loves sardines, so I showed her the thread, today. Later while in the store she went over to the sardines. So I ask my Blonde wife who is typically brilliant, but does have her Blonde moments, so I asked, what are you doing we have sardines, she said I know, but I want to get some fresh ones. At that point I reminded my wife that she is blonde. See she bought some fresh ons lol.

I like em best when you take them and throw em in the trash"I drink a great deal. I sleep a little, and I smoke cigar after cigar. That is why I am in two-hundred-percent form."

Never had 'em. Always thought I'd hate 'em. Read this thread. Watched some "Trying Sardines for the First Time" YouTube videos. Almost all of the doubters in the videos, who thought they'd hate 'em, said the same thing, "not bad". So I bought two tins. One packed in water, one in Louisiana hot sauce. Who knows how many years they'll sit in the cabinet, but I'll keep ya' posted.5

^^^ yep. Gonna go with that.Usaf06 said:I like em best when you take them and throw em in the trash

So after they sit on the shelf for a while @Bob_Luken, you do like the wife did, and go get you some "fresh" ones.Bob_Luken said:Never had 'em. Always thought I'd hate 'em. Read this thread. Sardines and football, lunchtime. King Oscars, Grey Poupon, garlic pickles, saltines.
Dines and tines... way to go.“It has been a source of great pain to me to have met with so many among [my] opponents who had not the liberality to distinguish between political and social opposition; who transferred at once to the person, the hatred they bore to his political opinions.” —Thomas Jefferson (1808)

sardine sandwich, lettuce, a little mayo. Maybe once a year.1

I was having a sardine and Swiss melt with some Dijon mustard. Turned around for 2 minutes and the little guy ate it. Guess I’ll need to get more sardines."Cooking isn't about struggling; It's about pleasure. It's like sǝx, with a wider variety of sauces."

IIRC, the good thing about sardines as compared to smelt is that sardines are at least gutted before they’re canned. Smelt are eaten whole.
But that’s okay - I believe anchovies are also eaten whole and they’re extremely good.

Deep fried smelt on white rice! ..... that's my jam!"It's plume, bro. Nothing to worry about. Got any Opus?" The suppose to be DZR1

Appatiser with a Tanqueray and tonic. Paired nicely.

oh for the days when sardines came with a key welded on to the bottom of the tin, none of this pansy heat-sealed mylar. A rite of passage was cutting your finger on the lid as it scrolled around the key.danielzreyes said:
