Took the Christmas tree down today. It's just laying in the front yard looking pathetic.

Same thing with my neighbor's inflatable Christmas decorations - the elves are just laying there all flat with their arms and legs splayed out, like they're waiting for someone to come along and do a chalk outline.

Edit: there, their, they're... all used correctly. ;-)

    Nice

Trimmed my beard this morning and worked on a drain a bit to keep it freely flowing before eating breakfast and smoking a pipe.

I've been building Minecraft Lego sets all day with my youngest son and my wife. We had the idea of creating a Minecraft village with all of them. It's turning into quite the lengthy project.

Sounds great are you doing it in the shop so you can smoke too?

No, in the house so we can take Pokémon and hot chocolate breaks from time-to-time.

I will likely be moving again in the late spring or early summer, back to our old place. I'll have to say goodbye to this shop, but the move would help us save money and reach our longterm goals more quickly. Recent events in the world have made those goals more important for us now.

I've had bad luck with LED tubes and fixtures, bad quality items from China.

I've been known to buy the LED stick-on tape, scour thrift stores for AC/DC wall worts of adequate size to power them, and make my own lighting fixtures. It's easy and fun, and can work in so many places. Piano light, backlight for TV's and computer monitor, under-cabinet in the kitchen, in my roasting area, a 24/7 nightlight in my cigar room just bright enough so I can see when I come in or leave the room... possibilities are endless.

I think @0patience would be proud of me. My home insurance renews 1/28, and I have been trying to ask them some questions about increasing and decreasing some coverage amounts on various things. Whenever I am able to get someone on the phone, they can't answer my questions with specific dollar figures, and they tell me they'll pass along my requests and someone will contact me. Then, someone contacts me and answers a different question than the question I asked. It's been about 5 cycles of this.

Today, I met with an insurance agent in person who's going to shop around the coverages I want to different companies so I can stop dealing with this company, because their customer service is terrible.

Does this make me old now? Just old fashioned? Neither? Both?

Making them work for your money and finding out who has no idea what they are doing, is never a bad thing.

3 things I really despise, cell phone companies, car/home insurance and health insurance companies.
All of them are out to steal your money.

Those companies are annoying, but I've got quiiite a few that are ahead of them on my future old man list. Predatory payday loan companies come to mind. Basically the entire funeral/casket industry. Genetically modified food companies. Lawyers, just in general. I could go on forever.

Those companies should be outlawed. They prey on people who can't afford the loans and charge exorbitant interest. Which those interest rates are usually reserved for loan sharks.

But then any loan or credit card company falls into that category.
We're battling with a credit card company right now, that we made the mistake of using rewards points to make some payments. We had $1,000 in rewards payment points and they went after us for late fees for the months we used the rewards points and it went against my credit scores.
I paid the credit card off and retained an attorney to go after them.

I will probably only get the satisfaction of going after them, but it makes me feel better.

Even though everything you said is true, I don't agree with this part personally. Is it immoral though? Absolutely.

    OK, outlawed, no. Regulated, yes.
The problem with them is they are allowed to prey on people who can't afford the loans in the first place and make it easy for them to get in over their head.

Yes, those folks should know better, but in their defense, how many schools teach personal finance anymore? Probably not many.
It was a required class when I was in high school, back in the dark ages. 🤣

Getting an insurance broker was a smart move. I'm glad it didn't take you as long to learn that as it took me.
