I read something years ago stating the biggest issue most people have with solar panels is they don't have a way to store the power they are generating. So definitely look into solar batteries. It would allow you to store energy and use it during the night.

Batteries are the biggest thing
I'm not trying to be self sufficient but would like to draw enough from the panels to keep a freezer or 2, maybe a couple lights or boil a little water.

You also have to be able to isolate your system from the grid.

Right, I'm aware of that, like if you run a generator you isolate from the grid.
Me and my shovel dug a path up to my studio, down to my others studio, out to the car and truck, to the bird feeders, and out to where i have been leaving cob corn for the deer. Maybe 125 yards. Good workout as with 8 inches of snow a walk was out.
Drove to the Asheville VA yesterday for my annual physical. Had to take the long way around because roads I usually take are still cut by Helene. My Doc who is also a Marine told me I'm in better condition than he is.
I had a hour to kill between labs and primary care so I took the one mile perimeter path around campus to stretch my legs. Walking on the south section I saw something really surprising. A flock of Robins. Must have been 60 or 70. Really a treat to see the natural world working. Made my day.

@silvermouse My basic understanding is crypto exists as a decentralized, transparent, and secure alternative to traditional financial systems. It enables financial inclusion for unbanked populations and drives innovation in technology and finance, such as decentralized finance and smart contracts. For multiple leaders, crypto represents a strategic tool for economic competitiveness, global financial leadership, and innovation. While not backed by governments, its value comes from scarcity, utility, and market trust, making it more than just a "vaporous fiat currency." some believe that proper regulation can harness its potential while mitigating risks like ransomware.
My third oldest and I went predator hunting yesterday morning. In anticipation I had ordered a new Mojo decoy.
Looked like this...
When activated, the "tail" mounted (by a weak magnet) on top of the decoy spins and twirls around to create a visual stimulation.
We get set up before dawn and waited for sunrise. Once we had enough light we started the FoxPro caller with a cottontail distress sound. Within 30 seconds an owl glided in and snatched the "tail" off of the decoy and flew off. We looked at each other and burst out in laughter. End of hunt. Fvcking owl.

I'm going to guess like a week old dead mouse, but, be sure to let us know if you find out. Armadillo was better than I expected.

It'll be fine once the swelling goes down.

I know a lineman that lost both hands when someone didn't. Please make sure you're isolated.
Don't let the wife know what you spend on guns, ammo or cigars.
Yeah, your solar system or generator backfeeds through a transformer and kicks it up from 120 V to 38,000 V or so, not good.

can someone explain to this old timer why crypto is so important to our president, or why it exists at all? is it more than a vaporous fiat currency that facilitates ransomware?

Edward, I'm at a loss. Baffling.

An old friend of mine flew in for a job and we were able to catch up over a couple of whiskeys and smoke a couple of sticks last night.
I figured crypto is important as a tax dodge.

A good cigar and whiskey solve most problems.
There's that reverse psychology again, saying he doesn't want Cuban sticks.
We are on to you, Jeff.
How dare you Peter 🤔
