Why are we the only country in the world, as far as I know that teaches history from war to war rather than time span. The depression does have it's own thing but many times it is tied in with the cold war.

I'm guessing because it's completely ingrained in who we are. We were founded via war. We beat the British (twice), the French, the Spaniards. We fulfilled our manifest destiny through war. We had a civil war. We won two world wars. We waged war to protect ourselves. We waged war overseas. We waged war everywhere. Really, what's the longest period of time our country has ever gone without engaging in war? We have the 1860s world war I. Other than that? I don't know.

When you play in a lot of wars and you win them all, it becomes your identity. That's just my take.

    For Bob: war equals America.

you forgot the ones we didn't win. Besides, winning is an iffy word considering the slaughter. We are, as human beings, with the ability to think (i'm including friends and foes in that), stupid.

You and I didn't forget but "we" certainly did!

@VegasFrank , Spanish American War came in between the Civil War and WWI, in 1898.

That's right I forgot. So throw out that 50 years of peace I guess hah.

It's worth noting that the American industrial revolution coincided almost exactly with peacetime in the 19th century.

Interesting side note, with all that war in our history, one of the main objections to entering WW1 was the prevailing American attitude of distaste for the Europeans wars. The preceding 500 years or so were mostly a history of one King or Government ending up too deep in debt to work their way out and ending up going to war rather than pay the money they owed to "foreign" banks and/or governments.

Kind of looks like another thing that we tend to forget. Perhaps the fact that the victors are the ones who write the history, and have the children, creates an attitude of forgetfulness born of a general acceptance that "well, the good guys won, right?" After all, we're the good guys, and we're here, so all's well that ends well.

    Until it happens again.

Maybe so, but then the industrialists figured out that the military needs supplies, and wars have continued mostly unabated since. Lots of politicians have figured out how to cash in on that cow too.

Wars in relation to nations are no more than a reflection of the corruption in the heart of the individual. I think even if we had no wars, we would still have infinite suckage in the world, because people suck.

With little public scrutiny, the Trump administration is handing out hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts to some of the country’s most profitable companies and wealthiest investors.

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service, through a series of new notices and proposed regulations, are giving breaks to giant private equity firms, crypto companies, foreign real estate investors, insurance providers and a variety of multinational corporations.

The primary target: The administration is rapidly gutting a 2022 law intended to ensure that a sliver of the country’s most profitable corporations pay at least some federal income tax. The provision, the corporate alternative minimum tax, was passed by Democrats and signed into law by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. It sought to stop corporations like Microsoft, Amazon and Johnson & Johnson from being able to report big profits to shareholders yet low tax liabilities to the federal government. It was projected to raise $222 billion over a decade.

Things are heating up. In my opinion the federal government shouldn't be making statements like this.
I think Trump is suffering from TDS.

Trump calls for Democratic lawmakers to face trial for ‘seditious behavior’
“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Perhaps an age limit on presidents is in order? Must be less than 72 years of age at the projected time of leaving office, something like that? Witness Joe Biden, never the sharpest tool in the shed, but was still in pretty good shape when he took office. Perhaps it's just too much stress for those "of a certain age"?

    Time will tell.

Wonder what would happen if everything was in black and white on paper. What you have done, what yo want to do, and results. understand that it will never happen, bt wonder how results would change.

That's our job Ed to sort thru the bs and hopefully come up with a candidate that somewhat reflects our ideals. I saw the House passed a resolution denouncing socialism today...with lot of Dems supporting.
