The toleration of mediocrity seems only to exist with the Athletic Department at PSU, likely due to the reason Rusty suggests, the Sandusky/Paterno scandal, of which the AD has much to atone for, since they covered it up at every opportunity. However, the tolerance for mediocrity does not extend to the fans or the student body, who do not accept that a "winning season" and a mid-level bowl game constitute a good season. True fans (of which I am not, but know many) and the student body would be thrilled to see Lame Game James depart with boot print on his backside, and another loss to OSU next year, I think, could see that outcome.

There is a lot larger margin for what is and is not mediocrity in college football than in the NFL. For a lot of schools a winning season and mid-level bowl game constitutes a good season. That he’s done. He also went into a program that was rocked by the whole Sandusky/Paterno situation and brought pride back to a school that had lost it. There is a lot to be said for what has been done off the field.

Yeah, I guess PSU just doesn't have the same type of history and rivalry as those teams, being independent for so long and only becoming part of the Big 10 in the 90s. Maybe the closest thing for Penn State was with Pitt(sburgh), but they don't even play each other any longer.

Just picked him up. They said the cuts were clean and they were able to align his lip. A week in the cone and he’ll be okay. He’s not supposed to get it wet though, so I’ll have to monitor his drinking water, but it could have been much worse.
